Balista future update?

The balista is fantastic and i am really looking forward to using it, but it attacks players including the person who puts it down. so this means you cant really use it for co-op unless you are doing pvp only, and even in single player you have to be super careful with it so you cant just put it near an entrance for protection otherwise you will get hit.

So my question is, will there be an update to solve this either by making it not attack the person who put it down or anyone with pvp disabled, or maybe some other method of making it easier to deal with so it isn't shooting you every time you forget about it.

Hello everyone! i wanna point out if the Ballista cannot see you it cannot hurt you. Make pillars, put them on top. Surround base, make a special exit :3 thats what i do and it never affects me but i can understand the frustration as they've blasted me.

I'm of the opinion that the Ballista's Shouldn't target the player's.
Alternatively, there could be an adjustable setting on the Ballista's themselves.

As an example: The options could be Target Enemy (Mobs with Red HP Bars.) and
Target All (this setting could be for Mob Farms and/or PVP situations.)
The default setting when the Ballista is placed, I feel should be Target Enemy

Additionally, if possible, the person who places the Ballista should never be considered a target of that Ballista.

The Ballista's are magical self-targeting structures and the Black Metal Traps along with the Wooden Spikes are indiscriminate defense structures that don't do any sort of targeting whatsoever, they are meant to be run into by the enemy.
If you as the player do that, that's on you as the player when it comes to indiscriminate structures.
The Ballista's in my opinion should be set up differently as they are a more advanced kind of defensive structure.

I haven't gotten here yet, but can't you just make a U shaped turret of stone to protect it and aim it out away from your home and places you walk around?

These seem like a godsend if you can avoid being shot. Stir up a lox herd or seeker nest, take a nap, collect the food.

Honestly they should make default mode only targeting non-player faction mob but when you turn on PvP It will target everything including you .

Dev said they want to keep the current targeting player with PVP in mind , they however not account that people usually not turn on PVP mode unless they feel like it so the game mostly in PVE mode .....

Alot of people are focusing too much on the fact they target the player, theres no need to be outside of your base when there are portals, ballista is just raid/event defense, build a bunch of alcoves around ur base with a doorway or window shutter to reload them from the inside of ur base while still being able to shoot outside, pretty simple.

my issue with that is that me and my friends are making a very large village with several layers. some people are inside the first layer of defense and some are inside the second layer. you could say that we should just put it outside the outer wall except the place is big enough that enemies spawn inside the outer defenses.

putting that aside it is just annoying because it limits what you can do with your structures if you want to use those. the short answer is on a practical level you are correct but on a fun building level you are incorrect.

Ballistae are not meant to be used on random mobs outside bases. They are designed for big troll sized enemies.

The devs have said this is "intentional" ... because all traps/spikes can hurt the player.

So, unless they change their mind based on feedback ... this isn't something to be "fixed" since it is working as intended.

I've not bothered with them. I guess you could set them up so their field of fire doesn't cover the entrance. Also saw a video where they were mounted high enough the player can walk under them and not be targeted ... but that would make them basically useless against ground mobs. Thus, why I've not bothered with them.

Ballista concerned me too, until i realized you can switch it on/off using doors. But, ofc, they should prevent you from planting them near spawning areas.
