I just don't love the building in this game bc of the uneven ground. If I play a game like the forest, you can build elevated floors and therefore make everything nice and even and level.
If you play satisfactory, you can build elevated platform/floors that make building a pleasure.
This game gives you terribly uneven ground but makes you build on the ground as far as I know, then gives you a hoe that absolutely doesn't work at all (one of the worst ground leveling systems I've ever seen in any game ever; pathetically bad), and then makes building completely dependent on level ground.
I just really don't enjoy the uneven ground and the constant struggle to build on a level surface, the struggles with the hoe, etc. . You can hoe a million times and you just have a slope-y dirt mound when you're done, nothing even close to resembling level ground.

Agree totally.. if you need an influencer to make up your mind for you.. then you may have bigger problems than uneven ground.. EA games are frustrating by design (they are unfinished!!) QOL comes laterNo. Someone please talk me out of dropping this game for good
If you wanna quit, then quit. If it's not fun, why play?

Seriously, your want to drop the game and never realized you can build on pillars?

You should go watch a youtube video on levelling ground, because you are very obviously doing it wrong.

getting the ground perfectly flat in a large area is between frustrating and unpossible. There is an element to valheim that triggers OCD too -- a lot of pieces, even when snapped, are not exactly 100% aligned visually. It works, and it looks pretty good in their style, but I think some folks can't get past it. Same goes for level ground... you can work without it by simply putting down a floor. A stone floor will counter up to 1 meter of unevenness, which is a lot by valheim standards. A wooden floor with the occasional beam under it will also counter a good bit of unevenness. Between those and raise/lower/hoe terrain stuff you can get it to an acceptable place, for most people.
as for the other... Ive made more than 10 floor buildings without mods/hacks/cheating. Its no trouble to do that, if you need help, ask?

Just hoe the area as best you can. Use the pick if necessary. Then put down a short vertical beam. Place a floor square corner on the beam, place another beam every 3rd floor tile for support. You don't even need horizontal beams unless you like the look. Practice makes it easier.

Don't concentrate on building and play the game instead. You can just reuse buildings in game and other spots to have a place for your stuff. I have literally had a maxed comfort troll cave entrance with all workshop benches.
Building is optional also farming is, been able to complete game with ease without needing to farm the land.
Knife is also a nice simple weapon to make, low stam high DPS, can be used everywhere. So if you want to get rid of some tedium and focus on action then do it! Kick some ass!

I dont know man I've leveled surfaces covering more than 100m×100m to build bases/castles.
Yeah it takes time but it's not hard.
If you want to stop playing, stop. Won't change my game. Don't play a game that frustrates you.

I'm loving this game, but I'm having the same trouble sometimes. I find a good area with nodes decently close, but all of the terrain is hilly/rocky and uneven. I'm still enjoying the game and trying to find workarounds to this.

You can definitely build elevated structures. Maybe experiment a bit more? Try using vertical beams as 'legs' for example.

You don't have to put your floors on the ground, but they do need to be supported in some way.
I often put my starting shack up on a rock for the extra defense, then put the fire on the rock. Is the fire the reason why you are putting your floors directly on the ground? You can raise earth a bit for the hearth, and then elevate your floors on wooden beams. There is a button you can push to turn off snapping so you can set the height of the floor in relation to the beam manually.
You can of course flatten the ground with the hoe, fill in divots with raise ground and flatten lumps with the pick ax (not the same lump you just raised, unless you clicked twice instead of once) then do a second pass of leveling with the hoe to smooth it again. Repeat with adjusting and leveling until it's good enough. It's difficult to get it perfect, but you rarely need perfect when you are going to cover it with grass and building pieces. I rarely get dirt peaking through even when I do put my floors on the ground, and even then those spots can be touched up.

Place a vertical beam, then place two horizontal beams. You can then place a vertical beam below the horizontal beams. All on the same level. Just make sure they all touch ground. You can then later fill those empty spaces with the beams with stone floors and replace wooden beams with iron, etc.

You just don't understand the mechanics of the game, no need to get so emotional and blame the game over it. If the hoe isn't making the ground even its because you need to use the pickaxe on any uneven bits. And like others have said you just place beams to build independently of the ground.

Didn't seem overly emotional to me. There were no hearts littering the text. Downright restrained compared to some. most love the building system in Valheim. You dont have to use the ground as a floor. If you want it perfectly level make a stone block or wood floor. Valheim is one of the few games that let you truely alter the environment so the cost ofr that is that the ground will never be truely flat ...but you can come pretty close.
