two star wolf
anyone else have problems finding a 2 star wolf? I've played 3 different characters and none of them have found one. I mean one shows up the minute I show up in the mountain but after that nothing. I been out almost everynight looking and have yet to have one show up. I'm mean this is frustrating why play a game with you dont get or find what you want or need.

did you not read anything I said I told you exactly what to do. it takes about 45mins and you have to say the whole time or it will despawn if you leave or log out. So after 100 nights (since trying to get a 2 star wolf) I get one, but its not eating or taming and after logging out it despawn, What a frustrating game.

After taming 100's of Valheim's creatures, starred wolves are the most challenging, in my experience. It is important to be in such a spot so that you can see them, but they can't see you. Often they will not feed to begin the taming process, unless the aiming reticle shows nothing detects you at all. To clear the reticle, put a little distance between yourself and your target (after throwing in some food), with an obstacle between, and pan your aiming reticle away, being careful to retain a peripheral line of sight on the target, preferably from behind it. Placing some floorboards around the edges of the top of the taming pit, with enough of an opening to be able to throw in food, not only helps to keep them from detecting you, it also prevents drakes from seeing and attacking them.

Visit the mountains at night, listen for howls. If one doesn't appear, just continue doing it till you find one. Just found mine a few days ago.
Edit: Also dig a hole, bring a harpoon, ane some boar or deer meat with you. Once you've trapped it in a hole, throw down the meat, and stay near it until tamed.

I've only ever found starred wolves at night. When I have a large enough mountain range I dig trenches and set up crafting tables in key areas. When a pack of wolves find me I death star run down to the end, jump up and out place a wall then pick off the extra wolves with a bow and arrows.
Next step toss a stack of meat into hole and 'go hide'. Eventually the wolf will calm down, just trust that it will. Crouch and wait for the open eye to go away. The biggest part to know is that the wolf will only eat at night. It might take a few days for it to fully tame. Once it starts to tame it might linger after log out, but the only successful two star wolf I've ever tamed I did by just making a hidey hole going to take a shower, eating dinner, and watched two or three episodes of anime. I kept an eye to make sure I wasn't dead.
Eventually I came back (about 7-10 in game days) and checked and the wolf was tamed.

Or you build yourself a small tame pit at the base of a small mountain like this :

Sounds like RNJesus my just be holding a grudge. I’ve tan across only a handful of them myself, it near always went poorly XD.
Having lots of boat and deer meat on hand and a place to sleep will be needed once you trap one, and natural earthen walls a must as they will chew through stone like a hot knife through butter.

When I've got my taming pit ready to go on some distant mountain top, I've really been blessed by how little time it has taken me to find a 2 star wolf. The toughest is when they come with 2 or more companions, a shield & knife are handy if they spot you first. I suggest dispatching the 2 companions a.s.a.p. because if your character gets staggered it's all over.
I will make a beeline for my taming pit, then parry/block them backwards into it. Maintaining a visual line to them (in such a way that they cannot see you) until the taming acclimation begins, ensures they will not despawn before daybreak.

I did leave meat inside. I wasn't alive long enough for the wolves to eat any. You can avoid that by leaving a piece of meat inside. If there are no hostiles (from the wolf's perspective) the wolf might try to eat it which starts the taming process before you respawn. Once taming has started, it will not disappear.

I didn't see a two star wolf until around day 186 or so. That was also at night.

Finding one, no. Staying alive long enough to get it penned and started taming, yes.
When you hear howling at night go towards it. You can get more than one wolf in small packs this way which gives better odds of having one or 2 stars on the wolves.
Sometimes the wolves attack as a large pack. I had a trapping base at the foot of the mountains that was bordered by black forest. Sometimes large swarms of gray dwarves attack at night, that is also the time that the wolves seem to be hunting in large packs. I was fighting gray dwarf after gray dwarf when there were suddenly 10-12 wolves that had been attracted by the noise.
I managed to get the entire swarm into my taming pen and get the gate closed just as I got killed by one of the wolves. By the time I respawned and portalled back the sun was coming up and the entire pack had despawned.

Indeed they hit like a truck, Bonemass power heavily recommended. Finding one, no. Staying alive long enough to get it penned and started taming, yes.
Taming a 2 star wolf was the only time I felt the need to to exploit earth walls, because they destroyed stone walls with ease. So I just dug a pit and pulled the wolf into it with the harpoon and jumped out very quickly (I hope you have decent jump skill lol)

its hard finding one and a job to tame but it can be done! here is how I did it: Dig a pit and make a small outpost next to it, next get all your next food you will need it and will die be sure to have a bed in the outpost and plenty of high HP food. next, you want the best gear you can get max stats! ones you have done all that it's time to hunt 2-star & 1 stars ONLY come out at night! this is where the real work begins finding one will take time so be prepared to fight and run don't worry it will come to you. ones you found one DO NOT RUN! you only waste stamina you need all you can get. block block block with your shield lure it to you pit get behind it and try to shield block it into the pit it will be pushed back by each block use this to your advantage. ok, so your 2 stars in the pit you need to toss in meat deer or boar doesn't matter as long as it's not wolf meat, taming takes 45mins real-time. now the waiting begins Do not leave the area untell it is tamed or it will despawn. it will try to escape once it comes down it will just howl and whimper you know it's tame wend the wolf becomes quiet and won't attack you. Congrats you now have a 2-star wolf. to beerd it you just need a 2nd wolf of any lvl and feed them meat and wait entell it breeds a 2-star pupe. that's really it! Good luck!!
