burial chamber to difficult?

So, I'm new to Valheim and followed a few guides but I still struggle with clearing out a burial chamber...
The main problem is that it's just to dark to see so I can't carry a weapon + shield or use my bow as I can't see anything... Carrying a torch leaves me very vulnerable so it takes ages to clear a single room. Often have to go outside, wait for my health to get back and go back in.

FYI, you can use the torch as a weapon. You can use it together with a shield.

The torch acts as a club with fire damage and will rapidly lose durability. But as long as you have wood and resin, you can quickly make another on the fly.

The key to beating Burial Chambers is to clear out the rooms one by one. You can actually shoot arrows from afar too.

The Swords stab ability is really useful in the crypts. Not much help for your first one, but you can also use a shield and spear. Block, strike.. easy as pie.

My first crypt of this run, 2 skeleton archers outside, died 4 times just trying to get into it.
Got 4 cores. Need 5 for smelter.. pfft.

So yeh first 1-2 can be brutal, after that not so much. Seeing alot more ghosts and putrids as well. So be careful out there.

I really like the idea of the Stagbreaker, but find it clumsy to use.

@OP, what works for me is an upgraded buckler and flint or bronze axe during early game. Also, make sure to stack up on troll armour. When running around the mini dungeon, I almost always had my buckler up. If there are skeleton archers, I made sure I was at a door way I could dodge behind a wall. So I always moved side to side, then whack it and retreated.

Try tweaking your light setting. It is quite possible to explore Chambers without torches. Keep a dark room and turn up light in the screen

so if your eating good meals and upgrading armor, burial chambers arent too terribly hard. honestly the biggest damage sponge in one is the ghost early on. you'll want a mace and shield for everything else parry and smack and most things die in 2 swings.

these are meant to be mini dungeon crawls afterall.

once you got the kinds of materials you need to make a Stagbreaker hammer, it helps with skeletons and their spawners to be cleared more easily.

He literally just started.. and he does not have enough currency to buy anything anyway.

Ok so if you want a real good tip, try placing a Fireplace inside the Burial Chamber. That way you can rest up, and your HP will go up very quickly while resting.

Use a Club and upgrade it. You won't regret it.

Yes, i do think burial chambers is too difficult early on. i play with 4 friends and we still got wiped once in a while.

Get a Stagbreaker. it's good for fighting bunch of Skeleton. i always try to get it first before getting into Burial chamber on a new save

The recipe is unlocked after you get a Core Wood.

You may have to turn your lights down in the room you play in or adjust the monitor settings. I work nights so the lights in the office aren't crazy bright and I can see relatively well in the chambers.

As long as there are no archer skeletons after you, you can just stand at the entrance without leaving the dungeon; the mobs cannot jump and so are unable to get to you there. Even ghosts, at least if you stand right by the exit.

You can also use the doors to keep enemies at bay, as they cannot open doors. They can smash doors, but it takes them quite a while to do.

Definitely use a club against skeletons, and upgrade it as soon as you can. Not sure what the best weapon against ghosts is.

A tower shield is a good defence (I LOVE the new Bone Tower Shield) in melee, especially with the changes to how blocking works and timed blocking (round shields/bucklers) no longer being stupidly powerful.

As for darkness, I've not had trouble with being able to see enemies, and once I've cleared those out it's safe to take out a torch to make sure no treasure is left undiscovered.
The yellow mushrooms are pretty good in that they give off some glow that helps you see; picking the mushrooms only after clearing out enemies can be a good strategy.

I tried with a club but didn't feel it was better than my flint axe so gave up on the club.

I'll see if I can switch up the brightness and gamma of my monitor so I can use a shield...

Blunt damage is better for skeletons.

As soon as you can make a Stagbreaker, it pretty much trivializes burial chambers.

However, the last time I played enough was well before the most recent patch.. so things have likely changed since then.

If you have a buddy to play with. One of you needs the large wooden shield to block choke points (doorways, narrow halls) with and the other person needs to smack the skeletons with the stagbreaker from behind the person holding the shield.

This is what me and my friend did ages ago and it work perfectly. Make sure to bring good food with you.

By far the easiest way to deal with a burial chamber that I found for me is to craft a Stagbreaker (or similar area-of-effect weapon), lure the undead to the doors, close the doors and then bash in front of the door with the Stagbreaker. This will damage the undead behind. Use fire arrows for ghosts.

As for lighting up things, you can also shoot fire arrows at walls etc. to light up your surroundings. Works wonders in burial chambers and similar places, when the other options don't work for you. It's a bit expensive in crafting terms, but still works.

Also playing off of this comment, you can pull mobs to the entrance a little at a time. They may break your camp fire if you have to run, but the components will still be there and you can rebuild it. But will allow you to see to fight there too.
