ya this is me. it's a real bummer because I've never had a single issue with this game until now and so far there's no solution forthcoming.

Try making a new map using the same seed and see if that fixes it. I have heard of people getting wonky seeds, like with the summoning stones down in an inescapable pit, but when someone else uses the same seed, it turns out normal. The map may have glitched when it generated the first time.

I would use the map generator website tool to find a good seed, and take your stuff to a new seed (you can easily google the valheim map generator), you can take all your stuff by using a world as a transfer world, basically

- make new world
- build some chests
- login to old world
- grab stuff
- login to transfer world
- stash stuff
- repeat until all your stuff you want is in the transfer world
- create new game world you scoped out with the map generator
- move stuff from transfer world.

this takes advantage of the fact your character is not locked to any world, and the inventory of your character stays with that character.
Yeah its a pain, personally I would just restart as I like the start of the game but I can understand why most wouldn't.
I use the map generator, just to make sure the seed is not too crazy.

If you are seeing floating tar islands, It is time for you to get a new seed. actually, If you are already in Plains . . . you should just finish it up and tolerate it for now.

I would try to report this as a bug. It sounds like creation lag, like you spawn in and the engine is overwhelmed trying to build the new area, only a much worse case than I have seen/heard of. What if you portal out and back, does it correct?
you may need a new seed. Can check how big your file is -- world files that get too large have had any number of issues over the years.
