you can build some nice little buildings with workbench inside roofs to avoid the eyesore, i often do this when building docks you can make it 3 wide with either roof angle and make it look nice aswell as hide workbench

One can easily bury both wards & campfires, even wooden torches, which are attractive items, work to stifle spawns (neither have to be lit to be effective). I place workbenches high up in trees, either in the crook of a branch or on a single or double floorboard. It is also a good idea to encase workbenches in small wooden boxlike sheds so they cannot be seen by enemies who wander into their area of effect. If they cannot see them, they will not try to destroy them. The previously posted video clip is the most comprehensive & informative source for items which will prevent enemy spawns.

campfires work for spawn protection too. and once the fire burns out they don't stand from the terrain too much liike a workbench does. they have the same 30 meter range a craftingstation does. Unless it was changed putting spawn wards all over the place also prevents deer and boar from spawning too so something to keep in mind.

You can craft several workbenches in the area to prevent mobs from spawning. An active radius of the workbetch or other structures blocks spawns.

Damn, ok thanks. I guess I'll expand my home to take over the full island so that the work benches don't look terrible.

Does it stop all the deer and boars from spawning as well? Cause as annoying at the enemy spawns are, I've got lots of meat walking around lol

You can see which items prevent spawning here wiki / player base [valheim.fandom.com]. Every player built structure prevents spawns on them like wood, stone floors and the like, but not flattened ground.
You could also heighten the area of your base to make it safer or just place the workbenches etc. in places where they can't be seen that easily. Burying them 100% will break them, tho.
And yes, they will keep anything from spawning.

If your previous solution was to flatten the entire island with the hoe, I wouldn't worry about the workbenches being unsightly.
