Funny how 4 updates in 1 year turned into 4 updates in 4 years, huh? A miscalculation of 1200% on time required. And so far we haven't even seen a "major update" on the game, certainly not of the caliber that other games receive.

I simply got comfortable on the fence, and for now I suggest instead of buying it, people simply wait and see what updates it receives. Putting money into Early Access with a team that's working hard and on-track (with a game that looks very promising) is one thing, but when the team goes off-track by 1200%... the investment seems better withheld.

It's unfortunate that teams in Early Access aren't held to the same standard that teams working for direct investors are (i.e. a company). Which means to say - accountable for delays, constantly communicating their project status, milestones reached, expected new milestones, etc. We as investors are basically in the dark, because there's little accountability.

To directly answer the OP: It's Early Access - the game's basic framework (Alpha development) and major features/areas/systems are of paramount importance. Adding in things like additional foods, building textures/sets, and so on is what Beta is for. There is a certain amount that needs to be bugfixed to keep gamers that invested happy, but overall we should see the single LARGEST push for content during Alpha. Unfortunately, we haven't.

More content but it needs to be difficult. It is too easy to progress through the content in this game. I appreciate there are building aspects but it is a survival game after all and it's just too easy. If they ever removed ore teleporting restrictions, you could finish the game in a day without trying, most of my time is spent moving ore.

I've been gaming for over 21 yrs, and this only the 3rd time I have actually heard of developers playing with and listening to the player base. (First time was Alpha/Beta for Original EverQuest, and second was Alpha/Beta for Dark Age of Camelot). I guess I didn't help your questions at all...I'll go back to my corner of the world and build something. *huggles to everyone*

Did you have to wear knee pads for this one?

D) A Mac client. ;)

Other than that, they can and should take their time. And I think it is possible to squash bugs AND add new content. They're completely different tasks and should be partitioned to the team members that are each best at them. So I guess I also support option C).

So, yes, you can chew gum and walk at the same time. It is possible.

I would prefer decent content over rushed, I want IG to provide more content but take time to make it decent, even going back over old content and seeing if they can make it better.

I want IG to realise the full roadmap, but take the time to do it well.
I am waiting for the combat mechanics to get a look at :)

D. Moot because I'm not on their team and I have pretty much no influence over this for their team. The devs work on anything in game collectively as a team prioritizing mostly things they want to work on but addressing serious issues if it crops up quickly.

So they're working as they wish and I'm ok with that.

New content would be great, but the most important thing to me is a quality game that runs!

For me, it's more like this:

- Fixing Bugs / Optimising Code: 75%
- New Content: 25%

If the game is to receive Mistlands, Ashlands, and Far North one day, then I surmise 4-5 years (2025-2026) after initial Early Access is a good amount of time needed to release Valheim version 1.0.

DEVELOPMENTAL TIMES AS REFERENCE POINTS
- Star Wars Squadrons: about 3 years
- Mass Effect 1: ~4 years
- Sims 2: about 4 years
- Kenshi: 12 years total, 5 years in Early Access
- Rimworld: 5 years in Early Access
- Minecraft Dungeons: about 5 years
- Fallout 3: about 4 years with Bethesda, +2 years with Interplay
- Don't Starve: about 3 years
- Astroneer: ~3 years in Early Access
- Diablo 3: ~10 years
- Team Fortress 2: ~9 years
- Owlboy: ~10 years
- Valheim: Early Access for 15 months so far

Is there a presumption of lots of crash bugs? I think I've had only one abrupt termination in my hundreds of hours of play. For me, if I chose (B) it seems like it wouldn't take much time, and they'd be back to (A) soon anyway. So they're all pretty much equivalent.

Is there a presumption that bugfixing and content are done by the same people, and they could choose to spend their time on one or the other? I suspect there are different people with different skillsets at work, and it doesn't make sense to send the programmers (bugfixers) home while the artists (content creators) are doing their thing, or vice versa. With respect to that, none of the options make sense.

One could could speak hypothetically: if you could have one or the other and not both, which would you choose? But that doesn't seem useful.

B is a non issue if you turn steam cloud off and keep backups.
so A, by default.
