A kind of story we need right now
There was a certain amount of whiners last days, so i want to share somewhat positive story.
It happened month ot two ago. I have cleared 12 crypts on a swamp far from my base. This gave me about 1300+ iron. I've decided to make only one haul. I've built two carts, loaded them with iron and... stuck near the outpost. The cart fully loaded with iron just can't go anywhere, but a nice straight road. Any hole, slight ups - you stuck.
Ok. But carry 40+ stacks of iron just in inventory one by one - it's a massive waste of time. So i pressed button "1", where my axe binded and started gathering wood. I've got enough to build a one-level wood road on a cliffside. Road was built without any adventures. Just a few dead draugrs. I've already had a docking point, where was my long ship. Three short trips on a new road - longships trunk is fully loaded and two carts with iron on a board.
Yeah, here is the thing - you can't drop anything into a vessel, but you can drive a cart on board. Good news - you can haul carts in boats. Bad news - boat gonna be VEEEERY slow. And carts cannot be fixed, so they will move from side to side on every wave. Good news again - even fully loaded with heaviest ore cart won't drown.
So, I've got Moder power and started a run. Nothing special in the beginning. Then night came. And yes - serpent spawned. Not one, but two. Well, they are pretty weak and easy to kill. Also serpent are slow and boat can outrun green guys on a third speed. But not heavy loaded boat. Serpents scratched vessel a lot. Of course, i've killed both and even got some meat. But travel further was pretty risky - a region of ocean, which i call Serpent Sea, was ahead.
Luckily, there was a small outpost on a way. Not really a perfect place to stop - it were Plains. But I've had a workbench there, some resources and a bed, if something goes wrong. I've repaired a ship, made some arrows and continued.
Night, full darkness, fog. My ship barely moving on a rudder. Wind is against me, Moder power on cooldown. I need to traverse one swampy cape with a slow turning ship. Boom! I hit the reef and stuck. A few degrees to the right and i would pass, but now I need to deal with a classic swamp welcoming commitee - pack of draugrs, skeletons and leeches. I've have a Frostner. But not a Bonemass power! I'm with sailing buff! I have died on a shore near my ship under a heavy attack.
Respawned at my main base. Ok. It's 1 AM in the real world, so it's better to sleep and think calm and fresh in the morning.
Next day. I know, the game doesn't compute anything far from the character, so unless i'm close to accident site - my vessel and goods are safe. Now I need to plan a rescue operation. I have in chests - full iron set, iron mace, spare Draugr Fang. Swamp, where my ship stuck, is familiar to me. Also I have an outpost with a portal not far from northern side of that swamp. So the plan is to wear best spare gear i have, jump through portal and get to the ship while hugging the seashore to avoid heavy resistance. And this time I can use Bonemass buff.
This went just according to plan. No troubles on a way to ship. Fast aggro of a shipgrazers on me. Quick fight. Site cleared, gear retrieved, ship repaired. Carts are still on board with all the goods. Now I can finish my trip.
After 10 or 15 minutes I have crossed the Serpent Sea. This time zero snakes. Gods of Valheim were mercyful for me. I have docked my ship and started boring part of melting and gathering coal.

Is there a good way to build a wood or stone road? I find the angles between flat panels and stairs worse than just going cross-country and don't know any tricks for building shallower ramps without mods.

in my case, i needed to move cart only downhill, so I've just used vanilla pieces. 26 degrees angle is sort of ok to climb, but not with super heavy cart Is there a good way to build a wood or stone road? it was, but I'm gonna build that one in "creative/debug" mode. Anyway, it will be useful - spare top gear, some base improvements, swamp skywalk. also i have an idea to build a tower in the mountains in a very special place. is this amount of iron reserved for some kind of building project ?

Great story! I was hooked from start to finish. It is about time for this kind of thread.
I shot my karve with a fire arrow trying to get a sea serpent. The flotsam, including my tomb, is still on the scene. I cannot yet sail a karve with that kind of accuracy, but I've gotten frustratingly close. If currents and the effect of wind were modeled, my stuff might wash ashore somewhere, but it's going to stay where it is until I learn how to sail.
Oh, no. I'm going to have to go for joy rides in my new karve. This game sux.

@deadshooter
Add screenshots too in-between the lines to make the story even better.
And maybe you should just share the story without the first sentence in your post :)
No need to associate positive things with negative ones.

Good story man... Gotta not worry about the haters. They are everywhere in every game.
Some people figure out its good to build a wood road, some people come here and say the game sux and is unplayble.
