Over-spawned?

To begin, I am a solo player. I have been loving Valheim for a few weeks now, but suddenly I have become frustrated with it. I defeated Eikthyr early enough in the game and had occasional "the forest is moving" events. Maybe once every 10-15 game days. No worries, I can gather, rebuild and explore in that time. I had a few poorly defended houses ravaged, but typically had time to rebuild, and then explore, before the next assault. Recently, after defeating The Elder, I have run into so many events, about 1 every 3-5 game days, that my progress has virtually halted. All I can do is defend, die, repair, defend, die, repair.

NOT fun :( What is the typical event spawn time, and what are the triggers, if any, so I can avoid them? I had "a foul smell" (first time) and got killed, all my boars were killed (about 10 of them) and all my Wolves also died (3 or 4 of them) and I got sent to original spawn. 2 or 3 game days later "the ground shakes", I lose half my base and die of course, while just farming to improve defences with wood and stone. 3 or 5 days later "the ground shakes" and all my repairs are destroyed (but at least I killed both trolls). Rebuild, repair. etc. I have had 2 more "swamp" events since then, like every 3-5 game days, and one occurred when I was away from base, but near a "camp site". I mean, this does not seem very balanced to me? I have troll armor, bronze weps, fine bow, etc., but being hit every 3-5 game days by raids is going to make me abandon this game :(

Anyone else stuck in this spot? Is this normal for the game? I can't even consider searching for or going to Swamps when I can't even defend my Meadow base from spawns :(

It really seems like the spawn rate for "events" needs to be decreased, or at least be based/moderated on the number of players in the game. 10 players can take on a 3 day spawn much easier than a solo player.

Any thoughts on my rant are welcome...

That's a good question, I'd assume not because it would be too easy to disable all events by leaving one running forever at a decoy base.

if you can find an island near one of your bases, I would think it would be worth it to colonize said island. Easier to defend, you'll have almost no mobs attacking your base

Update - 4 IRL days now with "ground shaking" still going on. Finally got a breather :) Found a draugr village near a swamp/meadows area so I'm working on a camp there. Thanks to all who sent advice on my original issue !!!

If you want your peace of mind, knock out the bosses on one world and build your base on another. You can take everything with your character on any world.

One of the best defense area is UNDER the Elder platform. Dig out the area under it, There is enough room to build a pretty good base. Doing this will give you time to collect materials to build above ground Buildings and defenses. It is a Fortress and very very safe.

It won't. It will end when a new event is triggered since there can only be one event running. It just changes to the new one.

Not sure if that includes the wolf hunt since that is not base related. But I would guess it would as well since it is an "event".

Thanks, Guns. I have only been in game a month or so, and your advice is sound. I have only killed the first 2 bosses, and haven't even found a swamp yet. I am geared up as far as I can until I have Iron. I suppose I could make full bronze gear, but my upgraded Troll gear is almost as good, and has the 15 sneak bonus without slowing me down. If I could restart, as with life, "I wish I knew then what I know now", I might. But honestly, I would rather continue on with what I have. I can't re-do bosses in a better way, but your example of patience is laudable :)

I have trenches, moats, stake walls and spikes, bridges, crafting tables and overhanging firing points. I think I have done fairly well, but nothing is immune to assault. I am happy to have paused an "event" for now. It gives me some breathing room :) And I hope I don't trigger a new one any time soon!!!

Cool, thanks Gnome. So far, since that event was "paused", I have not had another. (maybe 5 game days). It is in an area I can easily skirt, so I am HAPPY :) I want to build stuff, but not have to resort to "creative" mode to do so. I haven't even found a swamp yet. so if I can keep it paused until I can make stone walls, I will be ecstatic :)

If you leave an event going it will remain going until you trigger a new event. At that time the old one will vanish as there can only be one event going at a time.

Not sure if that includes the wolf hunt as that event happens in the mountains or plains away from a base.

The main thing to do is go slow. Do not rush to kill the boss as that will just make the world harder.

For example I don't kill the first boss until I have scouted out copper deposits and have some cores. You need the cores to smelt the metal so it is pointless to get the pickax before that.

For the second boss I won't kill him until I have scouted out a swamp and have swamp food and have iron crypts marked on the map and portals near by ready with a base set up to process or transport from in a near safe zone. Again there is no point in having the crypt key if you don't know where any crypts are.

This will let you work on your skills as well as upgrade your equipment and food to be ready for each biome in relative safety and ease.

Using trenches and workbenches to prevent spawns in your base is just basic home defense.

That said though if you gear up properly you can face them well enough. With good defenses you can just crouch and wait it out the clean up the leftovers.

Thank you all for your helpful replies! I will give each of them a try !!! Anyone know if events still get "locked" permanently if I leave the area? Also, anyone know if multiple events can run at the same time? i.e. I have a "ground shaking" event at a small camp right now, I left the area and left it active. Will that "stuck" event prevent a "swamp" event from occurring, or another "troll" event? Any ideas?

dig a giant trench around the whole perimeter of your base. They won't be able to cross.
Then build a small gate with a bridge

Events have a 20% chance of happening every 46 minutes. Also until Bonemass is defeated, you can't get any event outside of your base (base means at least 3 objects within 40 meters) so not screwing around too much in your base is enough to siginifcantly reduce the number of events.
Alternatively quitting out once every 45 minutes should also work. If you are worrried about not keeping track of time while playing then quit out once per in-game day (one day is 30 minutes).

honestly sounds like you are massively under geared. crude bow will deal with ground shaking and bronze weapons + root/bronze/troll armour should cope with combat on the foul smell. as long as you don't hide inside your base the enemies won't attack it.

eat 2 meats and a honey minimum and go outside and fight :) active base defense

Get good at shield parrying attacks to trigger the double damage counter attack opening so you can quickly kill enemies. Kite boss event enemies AWAY from your base but stay inside the red circle so the event timer will run out while you are kiting them. Don't give them the chance to smash all your stuff. Pay attention to the color of the damage numbers you are doing to enemies. Yellow numbers mean you are doing extra damage, white is normal and grey means they are resistant to the damage you are dealing. Different enemies are vulnerable to different types of damage, for example. Skeletons and slimes are hurt more by bludgeoning damage from clubs and hammers. Grey dwarves are afraid of fire from campfires and torches.
