I use an old office machine to host game servers. My valheim server was utilising less than 4 gb of ram and very little CPU resources of this old dual core CPU. This was with 4 players on average at once. For reference I had players from various places across Australia playing

If you have a spare box you can host your own dedicated. It pretty straight forward, then you are only paying for energy used.

*Edit I've used gportal, and i am actually using it right now. But I have a spare i7 box i intend to set up. Once i have my own personal server running again I will cancel the hosting. Pretty sure you can host this on a raspberry pi

.....I am fully aware that its either I host or rent a server. Its not that I dont WANT to run a local server, I have no problems with that. My husband and I have done it before to play together. Its that I CANT run a local server as my understanding is for them to work you have to be on the same network and my friends live across town.

And I was hoping to see if any one else had any other recommendations besides G Portal so I could look at them and compare. Y'know... options?

You can actually host a server and people from all over the world should be able to access it, if your router won't stop the packages going through.

That is something you have to try out yourself.

And I was just seconding on G-Portal, because I used them in the past. There are, of course, other providers you can choose, but I do not know them.

Thing is we also dont always play at the same time so I dont want to have my computer on and running Valheim all the time on the chance that they'll jump on. Thanks though :)
