Axes work wonders against them.

I suppose Abominations finally give the two-handed Axes that are otherwise very sub-par a fair use.

But since you can't Parry while using one, I guess you gotta learn to dodge roll and hope the iframes are generous.

quickest way to kill an abomination for me was the good old parry and attack for crits.

Once you get your iron shield, parry and melee is quickest way, just like most (every?) land bound mob in the game.

This is by far the fastest way. I have a swamp zone that has half a dozen fire vents all near each other, and I just kit the abominations over them. Dead very quickly.

Also get a ton of coal, and surtling cores at the same time (this is the main reason I have a portal to this swamp, it's to farm coal).

It sounds suicidal but you can rush them while they're climbing out of the ground
and do a lot of damage.

Use your axe, stay under his "head" and use your shield to block his attacks = and you'll see that its a chilly breeze to take them down

Kite them through a surtling fire, use an axe for cqc, fire arrows for ranged attacks, or tamed Wolves if you can aquire some, they rip anything to shreds.

Once you got iron armor (chest and legs are enough) and an iron-banded shield, a bronze(!) axe is enough to fell them pretty quickly. The attacks can be blocked with the shield.

Parry one of their hits with an iron buckler and use special hit from bronze sword , easily rip 1/2 of their HP hit that

Only weak to fire. Quickest way to kill it is to bait a troll from a neighbouring black forest into fighting them. Then you help him out by hacking the ♥♥♥ with an axe. If the troll is alive after the fight just keep walking around while he chases you. He'll destroy drauggers and leeches for you 'til his dying breath.

They resist the hell out of pierce so bows aren't so good. Axes and swords work best.

Slash and Lightning - Normal Resistance

The rest either Immune or Very Resistant.

They're weak to fire.

Techniques to fight them that I've seen used:

1. Standing on the top of swamp crypts and using arrows. They typically if you're on the larger top most flat surface unable to attack you and you can just pelt them with arrows accordingly.

2. Per point 1 you can also opt to use a sledge hammer but that'll also destroy the torches at the crypt if that is a concern.

3. If you're fast and good at dodging then using an axe on them can work but you've got to be able to get out of their attacks quickly.

4. Bonefire. Its an unconventional method but placing one down and leading them into it can work because its just tall enough to block them. Some passive challenge run people use this method.
