Ruins in the Mountains

I'm really liking some of these ruined mountain castles I'm stumbling on. I rebuilt one up, just as a "prep base" or "respawn base" that's near Moder. It's a bit cramped, but it got me thinking about building a castle up here. But I can't see me switching "home base" locations and living out of it. Too far from the water. (Yeah, I could just build a teleporter to a dock.) Not much need to be up here, once you have all the silver stuff maxed out.

But it is pretty cool. I like how snow dusts the top of whatever pieces you have "on top at the moment".

Bases in the Mountain biome can be enriching and dangerous. All it takes is one stone golem and your building is in pieces.

Mountain is a bit of a wasted biome from that perspective. It looks really cool and would be a great setting for a base, but there is no practical incentive to do that. It is hard to grow things in there and it's not like it has any kind of special resources like what you farm in the plains.

If you're not doing no-portals, why not just make it your 'home castle'? Just need bed + comfort items, portal(s), a few chests for ready gear and food, maybe repair station level crafting - less metal needed that way.

Put everything else wherever its needed. As a plus, if you decentralize, only your castle will be subject to raids (barring the one that follows you around).
