If your using mods, probably with server sync, disable Crossplay for your server.

Nope, solo game using normal local client:server install with no mods installed. I even uninstalled the game, renamed the original game install folder, then had Steam do a clean reinstall. Game still didn't start. Someone on a different thread suggested a workaround of forcing steam to use an old_stable version that did get the game going again on my system but for those running a dedicated server, either at home or a hosting service, can't use that workaround.

Hopefully your suggestion will help those people.

and for the record I'm running Valhiem on a Debian 10 GNU/Linux install and haven't applied any OS or system updates in about 2 weeks so whatever is happening is definitly due to IG's recent patch.

The Swedish team Piktiv was hired for the crossplay development btw. So, presumably, this effort didn't take too much time away from whatever else Iron Gate is doing on Valheim even though I'm sure there was collaboration between the two studios.

I remember that I had to turn it off due to console player RST syndrome.

These forumns. in the last day there have been many threads with people haivng issues, myself included, with the patch breaking the game. A couple of people complaining about the game not starting or crashing with random errors is expected but the number of threads and comments about the same issue, servers and local clients failing to start with the same symptoms after the patch gets installed is worth mentioning, hence "notable".

And all quite easy to fix, so not that notable at all...

Because cross-platform means they can cash in more.
I'm not saying this to be a brat about the topic (although I am angered by it), but it makes sense for them to try to profit as much as possible off of it. Especially since it's seeming less and less likely as time goes on that we'll actually ever see a finished product.

I can certainly see the profit motive but it isn't a bad idea honestly.
My main gripes with console game is basing the controls off of gamepad then mapping keyboard mouse in.... as long as the game stays keyboard mouse based to begin with it's all good to me.

I can see some slight delay for putting out big content patches but not much. Bug fixing for console should be a non issue since the console thing is a "fixed" hardware base and probably handled by outsourced devs anyway.

So I don't see console side really effecting the game development in the long run by much. I still have faith they are looking at the big picture and will finish the game as intended.

So we can't hate IronGate for making the game useful on more platforms? You mean all the devs didn't stop working on the game to work on the crossplay? Like maybe a whole different outfit did that, like it was farmed out? I am shocked and appalled I can't be mad at Valheim for that. You have ruined my day.

i laughed when i saw crossplay then proceeded to disable it. causes more problems than it solves.

So the Devs can take in millions $ more, then leave the console crowd hanging for years.
