Ya, my first play through I probably spent days looking and I found the altar before the vegvisir. It is pretty cool to sail up the coast and see the huge hand jutting from the earth.

I always find them at the stonehenge looking things. Have you come across any of those and checked?

That is the only place I have found them in the plains.

i found mine after looking for 6 real days...
totally agree with OP yagluth vergvisir is too rare.

They can also be found alongside the stone archers or pairs of standing stones, and the actual stone structures (altars?), and can be missed if you don't check all sides.

Never found one in villages or towers, or at least don't remember it.
