The Ultimate™ Viking Tiny House Competition!
Hey folks, and good afternoon, or whatever time it is in your part of the world.
I thought it would be a good idea to get some creative juices flowing and create the smallest possible end game house for our dear vikings.
There's currently only one condition I can think of, and that is that smelters and the kiln stay outside (sorry, folks). You can keep it straight efficient or embellish in any shape or form. It just needs to be as small as possible, and yes, that includes height!
I managed to cram almost all you need in a 3x6 house, that is only 1-1/2 wall elements high (without roof). It gives me a 13 rested bonus. Not sure, if I can get it any higher.
I stole an idea from another community member (my apologies, forgot who it was), and buried the chests in the ground, so the top is flush with the floor. Usually they're covered by a red jute rug, to gain one more precious rest.
I don't like how I had to handle the spinning wheel, but for the time being it is the best I could come up with,
So show me what you can come up with! Mind, both area covered and height counts!

Thanks for all the comments so far, keep 'em coming! I'm also interested in more builds. Really like your idea of converting the well into a home, @AugustusKron!
I feel tempted to post a screeny of the well I built AT my home.. Kinda proud of it. XD

You can push the oven out of the house. I like to put it on a stone floor tile, arranged so the body is outside the home and just the interface / doors are inside. Solves both smoke and space problems.
The ferment barrel is a good candidate for loft like your spinning wheel. It will drop the product onto you, and is accessible by looking up, but its bulky and in the way.
you can bury all the forge and workbench upgrades. But the question is, does that count? If you have a hidden, inaccessible area, its still a level, right? I mean the chests as floors is pushing it, but when you bury the adaze & chopping block etc....
you can also push the hearth outside and avoid a chimney/smoke solution. But you have to get a roof tile over it somehow if you want it to work in the rain.
19 comfort without seasonal stuff, I think is about the max. That means you need one of the bulky blackwood tables, and a hot tub, if you want to max out. I would also say that 1 portal to a hub is almost a requirement, but it could be outside I guess. They don't take up much space against a wall.
just about anything except the bed or tall stuff like throne can be layered with shelves over it.

Here's more of the UVTH. I've made it a bit nicer, mostly outside, but you can see some of it from the inside.

Yeah, ground's a bit uneven, hoe's a tricky instrument. ;)

Challenge accepted. I agree with Grinfilltcelt and that's how I usually do it anyways, but lets see how small I can make it. I'll have a go at it tonight.

was pretty fun trying to cram stuff in there.. you can destroy the floor at the bottom of those and it opens up into an even deeper hole if you want an underground mountain lair like a Bond villain..

Nice. My only suggestion is that you could have put most of that stuff that you don't actually interact with under the floor. Other than just for fun, I don't see a lot of point to this. It isn't like materials are scarce and hard to get or that space is at a premium in this game. I tend to make my dwellings as roomy as I can.

Some people do it for efficiency, smaller build is quickly done. For me it is both the efficiency part, as well as the fun part. I like smaller houses. I'm not good at larger builds. My largest is my tavern, much larger than this house. But it is quite small compared to some of the bigger builds out there.
I'm "embellishing" the house right now, to make it look much nicer. A plain efficiency player will not go for that, but I also happen to like nice looking houses. ;)
I will post pictures when completed.
Edit: Your suggestion is very good. I see what I can do about that. Specifically the tanning rack is an eyesore, as it sticks out of the wall, covering almost completely the workbench.

I love seeing what people do with builds. I applaud the ingenuity.
However, I don't think I could live there. I can't stand not having space. Even my starting base homes usually are bigger than they need to be and evolve so crafting and cooking have their own seperate micro-buildings next to the living/storage space.
It's a lovely little build though and looks cozy to boot. I think having all the bench upgrades in sight fits the idea of the build.
