Sick of deathsquitoes, done

Sorry, I'm just sick of getting killed by deathsquitoes any time I even get *near* a plains biome. They just charge out and kill me, and buzz around my corpse killing me repeatedly when I try to show up to claim my stuff.

It's just not fun anymore. Can't get near Bonemass because his island is surrounded by plains, and I'm not even sure I want to go through the trouble of killing him. The game has a lot going for it, but until it gets rebalanced in some sane fashion I'm going to go play something else.

I don't think he was asking for advice tbh. I think he wanted to share his experience of him streaking through the plains before going down screaming, to a mosquito, and ofc inform us of the boycott of him playing the game any further until the devs change the game to his pleasing.

PLEASE don't stop playing this wonderful game because of the skeeters. If you have a shield... all you have to do is face them with it up, they hit, you swing back they are dead.

They are more a psychological threat than a real one once you figure them out.

SkEeTeRs have only 10 health points.

Sneek, scout... snipe them w/ the bow.

Also if you're not ready for the plains avoid the plains!

Thanks for the PSA. I really love when people announce their departure despite nobody caring. I wish more people would do this.

Have fun with other games.

Yeah I'm pretty sure he's long gone now... sleeping probably. Dreaming of Mosquitos.

When a game presents you with a challenge... the best thing to do is just quit.

Another case of the 10-hp "flying death" claiming an under-prepared player who thinks that they should be able to survive running into any biome, haphazardly, especially the (currently) "endgame" biome of the game, without paying heed to the very simple principles of making sure they are fully fed (max hp and stamina), properly geared up, properly rested (hp / stamina regen bonus), and AWARE of their surroundings at ALL times... and then coming to forums to announce ragequit until the devs "fix" it.

Sorry OP but you failed to prepare for exploraton... That's bad enough, but then you went about trying to do deathrun(s) to claim your corpse ALSO while being under-prepared, and now asking the devs to change the game simply because you haven't played it right.

The death statue is persistent, meaning it doesn't go away, so you have all the time in the world to PREPARE, before trying to go get your stuff back.... IF you couldn't survive while wearing gear, why assume you can run back WITHOUT gear and end up with a better outcome?

Get geared up, fed, rested and SLEEP before trying to go get the corpse...
Often times, sleeping through the night, will give the grave-campers time to reset and move on to other things, allowing you a better chance to get your stuff.

As mentioned by other people.... you can kill the deathsquito, in ONE hit with ANY weapon, so just kill it and then pick up your stuff.

Go slower... Focus on leveling what gear you do have currently. Deathsquitoes are annoying but become very, very easy once you get a better shield. Try a tower shield since you wanna block DSs and not parry them. Block their first hit, then just smack them. They have a very easy mechanic to them...

As for bonemass. That sucks. Sail around and find other swamps. Bonemass will have more than 1 spawn, you just gotta find the other ones too. There should be 4 in the world.

You had an unfortunate boss spawn point xx.
I would simply find you another boss point that is better located via an online map generator.

Otherwise, good luck with such a kind of thread here in the forum ... don't let git gud people get you down. The game can be fun if you are not totally unlucky ^^.

If you are going in to kill bonemass you should have Iron gear by now. That along with the swamp level food you should not be getting one shot by deathsquitos. With turnip stew, and sausages along with even carrot soup should do you very well in Iron armor.

If you don't have your iron gear up then do other swamps in safer places to get the iron.

No need to rush your progression.

Have your graphics draw distance to to max as possible, keep an eye out for them before entering, as previous poster said not great to do a swamp next to a plains biome.

Hunters bow fire arrows and decent foods will get you through.

I feel your pain bro I really do. I was in a similar situation with them. I was wearing T2 troll at the time. The Bonemass spawn is far away from my starter island and I found a mountains and plains biome. So naturally I explored and got wrecked by the buggers. While I did have iron armor I found out you could find silver without the wishbone using the stagbreaker. Now with t4 wolf armor, although max iron will probably suffice, sausages, cooked meat and any third item Deathsquitos barely make a dent. I just let them get near and if I time it right I swat em dead or just arrow it down as it flies right toward you. Worse case they take like 20hp if they bite me so keep going don't give up and you too will succeed. I do play recklessly at times and my skills suffered from the deaths but now I have slowed down and overprepare as I am grinding my skills back up. I don't die as much and the game has become more enjoyable for me as a result. Not saying you rush but just letting you know that most of us have been there with you.

By Bone bass you should be sitting in average of over 150 health, meaning a deathsquito can't one shot you naked as long as you are eating properly. With iron armor even without blocking it should take 4 or more hits from one to kill you.
This tells us you're intentionally running into a dangerous area without bothering to eat decenly.
Furthermore you have access to a shield and can simply hold block to take next to no damage and swat them dead.
Even more so you have access to bows, meaning you can easily shoot them before they even notice you.
If you are unwilling to take proper precautions and prepare properly Valheim punishes you for it, it's not a run in blindly - button mashing - death has no consequences game.

I'd recommend using a shield and 'macking them in the face quickly. If you're at the point of going for Bonemass you should be able to get yourself a decent banded shield, it's only 20 iron to get it maxxed out.

If you want to be uber safe, you can dig a hole that Neck can't get out of, kick/push a fair few of them in there and train up your blocking. If you get it to 40, with a maxxed iron shield, you should fully block their attack.

Edit: Unless they're higher than level 0, that is. Not sure if I've ever noticed one higher than level 0 though, certainly never had one break my block to the point I take huge damage that I can remember.

If you're that squishy, you're not covering all your bases as far as preparation goes. Cooking, Forging, Brewing. I was chewing on Cooked Lox Meat and knocking Needle Arrows before I even killed Bonemass (Not bragging just perspective). Also, you can take Deathsquitos out with a single wooden arrow. Hard to miss as they fly straight at you. Perhaps practice awareness of your surroundings? Use sound? Sneak? The devs did a great job giving us the tools we need to survive without spoiling the fun/thrill/challenge of learning to adapt to each situation we're presented with. If you're just blind, turn vegetation all the way down. It makes spotting enemies so easy it feels like cheating.

you can hear and see them from afar, and a bow puts them down even with wood arrow.
