Not sure if you checked around much, but I found two possible solutions from the reddit link.

Possible Solution 1 by Ilotan:
"Yes I have found two ways. First one is what I am doing.

I am on xbox gamepass and friend is on steamdeck. Launch the server from the xbox user. Then if the steamdeck user streams from their pc instead of running the game from the steam deck it works fine. Not perfect but if you have a good PC and internet it prevents the steamdeck from getting so hot and runs better.

Reinstall the game on the steam deck with the proton version (properties -> compatibility -> select a proton version.). Issue seems to be with linux version"

Possible Solution 2 by No-Weekend7331:
"Hey guys, I have found a workaround that works for my Steam Deck and I didn't have to disable crossplay:

Go to desktop mode.

Add the game binary (valheim.x86_64) as a non-steam game manually. The parameters for me ended up being:

Target: "/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Valheim/valheim.x86_64"

Start in: "/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Valheim/"

Go ahead and play!

This works in Gaming Mode too, if you use the non-steam entry you created for Valheim.

I know this sounds crazy, but I guess the default way Steam launches Valheim misconfigures it. Found it by accident when I was trying to see if there'd be any output in terminal when failing to connect.

Note: Had to lower the graphics as much as possible to avoid overheating and having my Steam Deck crash. It's insane how poorly optimised this game is."

Don't forget to check network and firewall settings on the laptop. Check your antivirus program too to make sure that your network isn't blocking your connection.

You need surtling cores, which come from burial sites in the black forest or surtlings (the latter you'll encounter later), and copper (from nodes in the black forest and the antler pickaxe) to make charcoal and ingots for a forge. The burial chambers look like doorways with big stones framing them, sometimes depressed in the ground. Be careful, there are troll caves too, they're fairly similar but much bigger.

You'll be fighting skeletons in the burial chambers, bring a club type weapon, and a shield if you're not confident about fighting lots of them.

This upsets me more than it should. Like, if you played a game for some time and then you dip into mods to alter your experience, okay, but without even trying the carefully tailored experience that the developers try to achieve, it is just a disgrace. I wonder how many people give a review based on their modded experience without having played the original version, ever.

The mod that OP uses, Valheim Plus, appears to be a mod that "change[s] and modif[ies] several features, mechanics and behaviors of the game Valheim". How could we even start to give him any suggestions and help unless we play with the mod ourselves.

There is a black crow that tells you a lot of what to aim for.
Besides that, simply go exploring, but be cautious!

Just keep exploring the black forests. Burial chambers look like rough stone passages leading underground, they can be hard to spot sometimes unless you're looking at them from the front, but they're often guarded by skeletons. Just be careful of troll caves, they look similar but are larger and often contain, well, trolls.
