The 500 meters exploration problem when Mistlands comes

The devs said that any place within 500 meters of where the player has been counts as "explored" and it will not be affected by any new additions in future updates.
This is fine and all however the problem is with the sacrificial stones. If there is a new boss they have to alter the stones so there will be a place to hand its head on. Naturally there is no way the players haven't explored that area since that's the place where you are dropped at the start and you revisit that area multiple times to hang boss heads and change powers. They will have to make an exception for that so that place might differ in terms of coding from the rest of the game world.
Naturally the "mystical force" that blocks you from building there might have something to do with this problem. My guess would be that the reason they not allow you to build there is because that area will change in the future so the new stuff would probably clip through your buildings.
The same thing is true for the Merchant. They are planning changes to him so they probably don't want you building stuff too close to him.

Maybe they will simply make a portal once you finish off the plains boss, that you enter and find yourself at random location on map with new boss stones.

Since you still have mistlands, firelands and deep north bosses. And once you finish those, maybe a new portal spawns and that one ends on top of map (like that large tree you see in sky that leads to final boss).

Kinda like a Sky area from terraria for example:

Final boss on Yggdrasill branches would make sense:

I started a new world that only has meadows and black forest in the center area so even after I finish clearing the entire island and building everything I want to build I should be able to save the world for worst case scenario if I start over I'll at least keep my start up island the way it was.

You might be looking into it too much at this stage. But yeah if restarts are required than so be it, we bought an early access game

It happens in every EA game and it will certainly happen sometimes in Valheim. It doesn't bother me at all. :dwarfwork:

I'll just start a new world like I did with H&H. Problem entirely avoided.

Not like that update is going to come soon (since there's no ETA), so there's plenty of time to enjoy my current world.

As far as the stones go, actively altering an area that small probably isn't that big of an issue from a coding standpoint. Annoying, most likely, but not entirely impossible. I would say that, at most, the immediate terrain within 5-10m may change a bit.

Then again, I could be totally wrong; I guess we'll see.

As for the trader.. I assumed the only "updates" to him were going to be his inventory, which would mean you'd simply have to go speak to him again to see the updated list.

I kinda would like to see the poor guy get a hut or something, though. Maybe offer a quest that awarded you with some kind of mystical object used in crafting a high-tier weapon or armor? Would be neat!

There are no problems altering existing structures like the Boss-Altar. They only have to change the 3D-model and the code behind.

The problem is inserting new structures in already explored areas.

True. I started with H&H a new character and a new world and i don't regret it. Will do the same with all next major updates. There is a reason why the developer recommend starting a new world, even with H&H.

The arrangement of stones at the starting point is always the same and the area surrounding it cannot be built on or terraformed by normal means. With those constraints in place I don't think it would be impossible to automate a way of placing new boss stones in a pre-existing world.

In any case, making a world now was always a risk. And if they can't automate the inclusion of new boss stones, maybe it would be possible for a player to drop them in manually with commands or mods and still have functionality.

My tip
Get valheim+
Make a copy of the vanilla game and install valheim+ in this copy
Give the player in this copy 8x20 Slots and 100 000 Carry weight
IF you need to start a new Seed/map you can just move your stuff very easy and fast from the old map to a new

I think it is kind of sad people refuse to start over like this.

You don't know what you are missing honestly.

Not sure how things like the scaled up tanning rack and all the other stuff may look, does it scale up? Do you have to rebuild it to see the proper one? Are old things causing problems you wouldn't have in a fresh new world?

It seems such a waste to me if people only play on one world.. well to each their own I guess. Just throwing my two cents on the fire. I have about 15 worlds pre H&H I have not even touched since the update. And when the Mistlands come out I will probably have a few more but will start over for the new area anyway.

When I go on exploration travels I just make sure to see the tip of it connect at the sea, when they added the Tar to the game I had several plains completely rounded up but the middle was still unexplored, luckily I could still find Tar once I explored them after the update.

After reading the rest of the post I got really confused as to what you were mostly referring to.

ya it's not totally uncommon for EA to require a wipe or two. Which is why I had no issue starting a new seed when I started with H&H even though I spent 160 hours solo without mods or console commands building a castle that was like 90% finished.
