Advice? Check out a couple of youtube vids on simple home construction. It's not too bad, most people, me included, usually die of asphixiation when starting out. GLHF!

Too many questions

As you may have already figured out, the campfire needs to have a roof over it - but kind of high up or you will get smoked out (yes, you can die of smoke inhalation!). Then put a couple of beds in your house, near the fire. One for you, one for your wife. Press E on them to set your spawn point there. At night, you can sleep in them to pass the time or just get rest. Plop down a chest or two as well for a little more "comfort"... and a place to store all the goodies from your hunt. Place up to three cooking spits over the fire to cook your deer/boar meat (keep an eye on it so it doesn't burn - unless you want charcoal... and eventually you will). If you kill enough deer (you can "throw" a spear using the middle mouse button), you can place down a deer rug to increase comfort even more. As you progress, you'll add more and more to your little abode to make it more comfy for both of you!

I think the issue here is that what the game considers a roof and what you may see as a roof can be different.
The floor (flat) pieces are not considered roofing, only the roof pieces, the 2 slanted thatched pieces early game.
You cant use a floor tile above as a roof, the game does not recognise this as a roof, only roof pieces.

I had that issue on my first home, was getting wet in my house... turned out the floor pieces didn't count :P

To everyone who offered me advice. Thank you so much. I had to redo some of my stuff and rearrange some things around but I FINALLY got it to work a way that fits us and still looks good. Thank you! :D

also when you get to that point in the game, stone can be used as roofing/shelter as well.
