You should also be able to get any "lost" boss marker back by using one of the vegvisir for that boss.

So there is a choice for those that like to remove the marker when they have killed the boss.

You need to be more clear about what you're seeing. Sounds like you're just looking at your mini-map if you cannot see a marker after you die and respawn far away from your corpse. If you're using your main map you may be zoomed in to close to it to see the marker. Zoom out so you can see the whole world.

Death markers (like all markers) remain visible and permanent until you left-click on them to remove them or you've toggled the markers off.

If you're talking about pinging, that's still a left click on the map with your mouse (the little blue icon comes up in game so others can follow that direction). That hasn't been removed and is "temporary" in that it only flashes for a few seconds.

There are map markers for every death. Maybe you disabled those? The symbols on the right side of the map can be used to toggle them.
