Single Player/Solo Question
Is this game worth playing alone? I got it as a gift and have been considering playing, but have had bad experiences with similar games like Day Z and Rust. I just want to know if Im going to put hours into this game, I wont just get killed and loose all progress. Speaking of, is it PermaDeath?

Probably the best solo survival/crafting game out there at the moment. You'll still get killed and lose some progress.
BTW there's literally a post asking this question like 8 threads down.
Bunch of mods make it even harder/more fun/more stuff to do as well.
When you die, a death marker will appear on your map. Everything in your inventory will be in a capsule for recovery. As far as i know, near infinite time to recover. You need to consider that if you had a full inventory when you died, you will have a storage issue if you bring ANYTHING with you, including equipped armor and weapons.
A death in a terrible area on the map and the road to recover it is the big rite of passage for Valheim.
I played through it solo, had no real problems other than the occasional difficult to recover from death.
Sometimes it's better alone because you have a mission in mind and don't want to convince your friends to do it too. Grinding is more fun with someone to talk to, but taking down large groups of enemies on your own is somehow more satisfying than watching your friend constantly knock-back them away from your arrow.
Anywho, yeah try it solo. Just remember the bosses aren't scaled for solo and that some may require careful preparation and strategy solo. And a few deaths. So have back-up gear to recover your old stuff.
Its a good single player or multiplayer game. If you are unfamiliar with the boss fights they can be tedious when solo if you don't cheese them.
Yes the game is vvery much worth it to play alone and it also take +50 houres for most people to finish the game, so you get allot for your money vs example a cinema ticket.
There is no perma death in the game.
You die and drop your stuff on the ground, and you can just run back and pick it up.
When you die you loose some XP so i recommend to not fight to the end but maybe run away from battle or hide to regen health vs dying.
XP just give you a little boost to example swimming, running, jumping ect its no big deal for the most part. But if you want that xp boost that build up over time it pay to not die but honestly its not a big deal.
As you learn the game you will find different tricks to fast go back to your gear such as building temporary small bases/house and then put a teleporter inside.
So when you die you return to your bed in your main base, and can then teleport fast to where ever you build a teleport.
You will unlock teleports once you get some red square stones that can be found in crypts so you will get it pretty early on in the game. ( actual before you even get a good ship )
THen you can often run to x area where you died and get your stuff pretty fast.
Often you can run almsot naked without any weapon from spawn to the area you died BUT some biomes like plains or mountain you will find it harder to get back to your gear due to wasps and wolfes that is harder to avoid. Also the cold mountains it can be hard to get your dropped gear again due to the cold and loss of health if you dont have a frost potion or a wolf or lox cape.
But in general a good tactic in valheim is to prepare well before you advance in the game, it will make your life more easy.
Personaly i have like 6-7 small houses different places on the map so i can fast go example the swamp and collect x resources, or plains area to harvest barley ect ect.
I only play this Solo immeresive if you play in darkened room w headphones or good sound system love it!!
Thank you all for your responses/answers/help! Im going to give it a shot this weekend when I next have hours in a row to play. Also, I didnt think to look at other discussion threads first, so thats my bad.
