200 hrs. deep an still more to do!

can't remember the last game I was able to play for this long an not get bored of the progression. Simply just a well executed early access game, an it's what I needed when all I had was game's i didn't enjoy. Probably will put another 200 hrs. just into the building part of the game because it's super dynamic an what you can do in this game like Minecraft. Really looking forward to killing the Queen but may hold off until Ashlands is added. Hope everyone is enjoying this game as much as my friend an I!

If early one gets used to playing with a club & shield, then learns how to block parry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6P-x5J_s_8c, there is little or nothing to fear from all the enemies except bosses. It is so easy, as long as you begin to raise your shield for a block at the same time an enemy begins its attack motion, the block will result in a parry, staggering & stun-locking the enemy. While an enemy is staggered you can do up to 5x's the weapons listed damage. Hitting them with a special attack while staggered, usually results in a 1 shot kill. Clubs are a great weapon to start out with as most enemies have no resistance to blunt damage (especially skeletons & blobs).

Interesting.. I see grind in War Thunders and similar etc where the model is F2p and they make their money from bottlenecking progress (grind) ,, (edit: so you buy content or faster money sprees for irl money)but here in Valhiem. the model is at your own pace, progress as you wish at ANY speed you wish. the Boss levels are the only bottleneck, clearly defined and even passable if you stumble across Moder before Bonemass for example as happened to me. But thats only my viewpoint

got addicted last week. grind is to much but the other systems are pretty good.
the grind does get on me nerves tbh.
i can see myself put about 200h in to get everything i can out of the game and that's it. beat it, tame animals etc.
Idk how much i will do creative building.

I don't do a whole lot of building, usually just what I need to get by, and with just enough decoration so it's not a barn.

I do a lot of different runs though. I played permadeath while waiting for mistlands, so I got very familiar with the beginning through the swamp, over and over. I just finished a no boss run, not the challenge type, but the easy type where I brought the items over from another map. That was nice and relaxing. My chickens were happy to be out in the open with no fear of bats. This time I got the ValheimRaft mod, so I'm going to try a mobile base run.

The world itself is just a place that I enjoy coming back to.

I just passed 800hrs but admittedly, more than a third of that was spent doing creative building. it's great because my girl actually likes watching me build while we watch build vids on YouTube, and she's not even a gamer. The Mistlands got me back into the adventuring side of the game and I do like the new biome even tho the mist is truly annoying :steamfacepalm:. It does keep you on your toes tho. I'm also gonna wait to kill the Queen but I know I'll get impatient.

I saw some lets plays on youtube. But I'm still not sure if I'll enjoy it.
I love survival games like 7 days2die. I have 950 hours of play time.

doesn't it get boring when you just have to walk all over the map? I know there are portals but very late right?

What do you do in 1000 hours in this game?

Portals are available early, maybe after 10-20 hours of play, depending on your pace. You can find materials in the second biome.

What do you do 1000 hours in?
Forage, craft, build, farm, fight, sail, defeat bosses, do fun projects... rinse and repeat.
I'm very close to 3000 hours. After I get bored in one world, I just leave it and start a new one. I try different weapons or set some rules to make it more challenging (no portals, no maps, no permanent base, etc)
If you think it won't be fun doing it all by yourself, join a community or do a co-op run with your friends. It's always more fun to play with friends.
