Frostner damage seem low

I been using frostner for mountain monsters and cultists but the damage seem low even at max upgrade. I died to cultist from the low damage. Crystal battle axe bit slower to swing but the damage is good. Few items that does spirit damage. Or is it made for furlings? Undead usually get one shot dead.

@TheBoot I agree with you. Ooze Bombs are actually good even in the Plains. They are a definitely overlooked lingering AoE weapon.

frostner is a crowd control weapon, not well suited to doing the big damage. it's my favorite weapon and i carry it almost everywhere but I need to carry a damage weapon too so I have a blackmetal axe and of course a bow.

Unless you just want the close combat bows are probably safer. Stand back and pull them out. Use frost arrows and try to pull them across water etc.

... in the swamp, swords are resisted by almost everything,...

Uhm... No. With an iron sword (appropriate for swamps) you can slice and dice through EVERYthing very quickly. Really the only thing that is resistant to it, is Bonemass itself. Yes, blobs are easier to kill with the mace, but not by much.

Edit: I must say, that I also don't do swords until swamps or even mountains, because the atgeir is by far the best weapon for any biome. But the silver sword especially is really very useful in plains and swamps. Fighting Yagluth is a chore with Frostner, compared to the silver sword.

Mountains eh? One word; Ooze Bombs. Okay, that's two words. I think Ooze Bombs are one of those items that often get overlooked. Denizens of the Frost Caves are vulnerable to poison damage. The Frostner is not a good choice for that area. FYI, deer hunting with Ooze Bombs is hilarious.

Yeah, Frostner shines (as the name implies) against any enemy that is vulnerable to frost. Its pure blunt damage is negligible, and its spirit damage so-so. The silver sword is much more preferable if you want to dish out the pain against undead, since it has high slash damage AND higher spirit damage.

Frostner is good against fuling, as they get slowed down considerably. Probably its best applicability, or in swamps, when you have to go back to it for iron.

Against Yagluth I would definitely prefer the silver sword.

Frostner imo is best for crowd control. If you've just got one or two mobs, you're better off with a silver sword (or iron, if you don't have silver). But nothing convinces a pack of fulings to back off a little bit like getting whacked around with Frostner.

Frostner is fine tbh where it stands, now the Silver sword is underwhelming for what it actually costs.

It really is great for that too, I found. One whack can usually keep a few of them at bay (and temporarily at a distance) as you pick them off one by one.

Frostner's strength is not in its statistics. It has a higher knockback and slowing effect, it's meant to keep enemies out of range, not slug it out like a brawling weapon. It is very good at this, and also very good against most swamp monsters damage wise (only Abomination really resists is), sure, everything Mountains should be good against swamp, but most things take great increased damage from Frostner.

I personally struggle more with Swords, I know they're good, but they come so late I don't have them trained. In the Black Forest, Piercing damage is needed for Trolls, and everything else just dies to *anything*, and in the swamp, swords are resisted by almost everything, Bronze Sword is basically like taking a Club to the swamp, only more expensive, and an Iron Mace will do much better than an Iron Sword, so it's not until Mountain that you really can consider a sword seriously, and that that point, it's so far behind everything that it can be hard to justify the switch, when an Iron Mace and good Dagger can handle the mountains just fine.

This is where Frostner comes in, when you have a high Mace skill from fighting three biomes with Clubs/Maces, and low Sword skill, and need to take on Fulings, which really do not like Frostner. It's all about the decision of stopping and grinding sword skill, or using Frostner to smooth the way onto the Plains. I guess the deciding factor will likely be how weaponry looks going into Mistlands, maybe they're have a biome weak to Slashing, or we'll just end up with another Undead-feast and Frostner will punch above its weight again.

Frostner is more aimed at Undead and to creatures vunreable to frost damage... AKA exact opposite of mountain monsters ;)

Just guessing, but damage is probably lower in order to balance it out compared to other weapons because it has a slowing effect on enemies.

For what it is I guess it is balanced?

In the end it is best used on bonemass who most people would have defeated already. I often make one but almost never use it, actually probably going to stop even making one... iron mace holds up well until the porcupine.
