This game was perfect until Mistlands
I'm unbelievably disappointed with what the Mistlands are. I was in love with this game, but the Mistlands absolutely ruined everything great about this game. There is zero visibility and the land is violently impossible to navigate. Blowing all of my stamina just to get anywhere in the craggy areas is such an awful way to exist. There is no way to make an intelligent decision on where to even try to set up, much less any real area to set up anything anyway. Nothing I'm sure that hasn't been posted here, but my disappointment in this biome is unreal.

If you don't like the Mistlands that's one thing, but the presence of the Mistlands doesn't ruin anything that was there before. the way I see it, Mistlands is your least favorite level in one of your favorite games. the water temple in Ocarina of Time. Vault 34 in Fallout new vegas. both Krauser fights in RE4. I love these games but I get anxiety thinking about doing these parts. this is exactly how I feel about the mistlands. I'll get and do all the stuff there and then likely never go back, but that doesn't mean that the rest is now "ruined".

I think Mistlands is easily the best biome. But that's just me.
It's easily the most technically impressive one, at any rate. I like the balance of fairly desolate landscape juxtaposed by dvergr outposts and seeker populations guarding mines.

Mistlands sucks, especially for single player. It just ruins the game.

For everyone complaining about the mist in Mistlands, you realize you Can plant Wisp torches to keep the mist clear in a pretty large area , right? Is that insufficient?
And as you venture beyond the area of mistlands bordering the ocean You get nice clear patches of area to build on / exploit .

you get some nice one, then ugly ones, then nice ones. haven gotten to mistlands yet.
But my experience is:
-meadows WOW. 5/5
-black forest: Nice nice, dark. Gets stale. 4/5
-Swamp : as with every game that has swamp? ugh a few hours in, get me outta here. 3/5
-mountains: Great view, but boring n empty. Not immersive enough. I loved the challenge of being cold, but after u get the wolf cloak, its meh. 3/5. 5/5 if it stayed challenging.
-PLAINS: back to WOW, thank god i get some greens n nice enemies. 5/5
-Mistlands? idk, sounds bad from what others say.

Get the right gear, survive, level up and get familiar with it. Wasn't any different with the plains imho.

It's not getting killed by enemies. It's the biome itself. The fun is drained right out of the game.

*******Spoilers********
I bought this game at release though held off playing through until about a month ago, myself and 3 others did our first play through together.
All 4 of us were met with complete disappointment when reaching Mistlands. We were not only super underwhelmed with mob difficulty and overall threat of the biome compared to our first venture into swamp and plains but the entire experience item power curve/"leveling" curve felt obsolete before we could even use it.
For example, by the time we got magic items and abilities, we had defeated the queen. We also spent so much time farming chickens and high tier food but never used it.
The queen is also extremely disappointing. After getting enough key fragments to make a key and opening what you expect to be an insanely bug infested lair and hard fight....we simply just KO'd her with tier 2 Krom swords, Spinesnap bows and 1 of us had frost/fire/prot staffs.
Then we get the loot from the Queen....a placeholder item? Why even put a placeholder item....felt like spit in the face. You literally kill the Queen and then nothing happens and you're like "Oh, okay I guess we are done now?". Not even a visit from Hugin or Munin....just crickets. Like a terrible season finally of a TV show....
The game up until Mistlands is fantastic. We all enjoyed it being survival-craft fans. Hopefully the dev team rebalances and tweaks Mistlands alongside the plans for Ashlands because if it stays as is....I see it as a very small part of the game that COULD be GREAT, but most players will dredge to skip to move along.

It was the same thing with Yagluth. And it will be the same thing with ashlands boss. Nothing extraordinary about that.
And there's nothing extraordinary about the biome itself either. It's just continuation of how each biome ramps up after the previous one. Hang on tight or drop out, or wait for the potential world difficulty settings to be released.

Yeah, just a bit of a rant. We never played it until about a month ago, so we didn't know to expect something like a placeholder item. I'm just saying that we were all amped up with excitement and enjoying the game, then to hit a wall like that where it all stops on a dime was a bummer.
The difficult settings would be cool to play with. Playing with 4 people we found it fairly easy.

yeah got the same feeling. Mistlands is just meh. The Dungeons are cool but the terrain is crap plus the dense mist. I´m happy we got everything we needed in like 3-5 hours. never gonna visit that biome again.
