Um....mobs mercilessly attack me no matter what -- please allow difficulty slider

I tried creating a challenge for myself

I die, die some more, die more, and I just want to sneak and use the bow and knife. I get back to my body, go to my base, set my spawn point and go to sleep. I go outside. A troll is just...there. I realize I don't have food on me. I figure the troll hasn't seen me yet. I crouch, and he is about to see me. I go back into my base just 5 steps away, eat food, and then try to leave. The troll smashes my base and my bed in one hit, along with myself. My spawn point has been destroyed and so have my recently reaquired items. They're all the way across the map in the other direction to where I need to go to the Elder.

I spawn at the starting point in the game with nothing.

I smash on my keyboard a bunch of buttons after staring angrily at the screen with my character just standing there. My computer restarts

Why is there no difficulty slider? I had like 8 greydwarfs after me, a shaman 1*, some greylings, and a massive troll. I don't have resist poison potions on me, and I have the crude bow, which I am not used to. I can't kill them all. I wanted to try to basically sneak with the knife, and use distance to my advantage, and not parry for the first three biomes. I just get constantly wrecked on my latest seed and character. It seems like the mobs have become more difficult....or maybe it's the change in playstyle

But there's really only one way to play this game without sheer frustration. Slow playing it. I'm not a fan of that, but I guess my new character needs to make a massive base just to farm stuff

You want them to leave you alone or something? Grey(most of the) Dwarves are easy- fire. Carry a torch, make campfires, They don't seem to be afraid if you set yourself on fire- better to set them on fire.

Trolls- first up sounds like you weren't as sneaky as you thought you were and lead it right back to your base.

Think you're good enough for a self imposed challenge- doesn't seem like it by what you're posting here. Learn a bit more about how to play, then you'll see where you can make shortcuts (there are shortcuts).

Best advice I can give is this: Be patient. The game is not something you should be rushing through and expecting smooth sailing (pardon the pun). Setting challenges for yourself is a great way to explore how things work but insisting that everything works the way you want it to? Not so good. You have to learn how things actually work... not how you want them to.

Take your time and learn the areas and their inhabitants. Every biome is different and full of surprises... most of them unpleasant, until you get yourself geared up properly and work out the various mob's strengths and weaknesses. It gets grindy but there really is no way to rush any of it successfully.

When you find yourself wanting to smash things...? Take a break, recoup and try again later.
Losing your temper means that a silly, meaningless game that is meant to be entertaining has way, way too much power over you. Mastering anything starts with mastering yourself.

Sounds like you need to prepare and upgrade a bit more. My second death (the first was a tree falling on my head) was by a Troll. I learned a couple of quick lessons - don't build a base right next to the Black Forest (or in it), don't go stomping around the Black Forest without upgrading your equipment to the max, have plenty of food on you, and run away. Whenever I get a swarm of mobs attacking me, I run and try and find a clearing to fight in. Some mobs are faster than others, so you can get them separated making it a little easier to kill them. Don't let them surround you.
Stick with it - you'll figure it out. You don't need a slider for this. Watch some YouTube videos to get some ideas - there are lots out there. Take your time. Rushing into anything in this game will get you killed. Being over prepared is a good thing. Good luck!

If you execute a dodge when the troll swings he'll miss you. Even with low bow skill you can draw and fire an arrow before the troll can swing again. If you see a troll approaching your base get his attention and lead him away. He'll attack you in preference to attacking your base.

Trolls are weak to piercing damage so use weapons that do piercing damage like the bow and atgeir. The atgeir has cleave so it does full damage to each target when you hit multiple targets. The only down side is that using the special attack burns a lot of stamina but you can retreat in a zig zag, when the troll swings you dodge and then use the atgeir's special attack which staggers the troll and the greydwarves and while they are staggered you continue walking backwards to regain stamina (you can back up in a circular pattern too). repeat until every thing is gone.

Maybe create small bases all along your way to a distant locale. Keep changing your spawn point as you proceed.

Seek therapy. This behavior is not normal or socially acceptable.

Also, are you complaining that the game is too hard after you self imposed a challenge on yourself? You can kill greydwarves easily with an upgraded flint axe. They resist bows and daggers. Also, get used to dying no matter what you do. You can plan for this by having multiple gear sets, properly planned bases, and portals.

please dear god no. sliders are dumb as ♥♥♥♥. and they are never balanced in any meaningful way to begin with no matter where you turn em.

the games difficulty is fine the way it is. its supposed to be A BRUTAL SURVIVAL EXPERIENCE afterall. sliders would literally remove that.

if you can turn up and down difficulty as you please at anytime that just defeats the point. its literally cheating pretty much.

Haha yes I don´t care about difficulty sliders either but for some people it might be good to get into it. Not everyone is on the same skill level.

Dont worry as soon as you get a full set of bronze armour, a bronze shield and bronze sword. The meadows and black forest become incredibly easy. Just make sure you always have 3 foods to give you extra health points and stamina... cooked deer, cooked boar and honey.
If you are fighting a troll, its best to make it follow you into a wide open area, where you can just keep on running around it rather than stay stationary, keep a distance between you and the troll and use flaming arrows to kill it. If you stay still and the troll gets close, it kills you easily.

Running away is usually possible and recommended over fighting to the death. Pretty sure one of those launch trailers for the game showed repeated death scenarios. But the penalties for dying are not very large, the biggest issue is retrieving gear and for that reason it's important to create backup gear as you progress.

You could also just put down the game instead of breaking your system in the way you described and try again later in a narrow time frame or when the game is complete. But even with difficulty sliders things probably won't be getting that different. Mods also exist.

There is an easy way to kill trolls in the beginning. Cut a bunch of trees so that the ground is littered with logs and then just lure the troll over. Trolls can´t step over logs so if you retreat behind the logs he can´t reach you while you can shoot arrows at him. Deal with the greydwarfes beforehand so they don´t annoy you.

Oh almost forget another good advice: Don´t run in the blackforest. The sound of your footsteps draws in all the mobs from far away. You don´t even need to sneak. Just normal jog and you will notice a huge difference in the amount of enemies that notice you.

As a general rule keep distance to trolls in the beginning, they hear very well. Greydwarfes usually notice you first. Lead them away from a troll and kill them first, then deal with the troll by luring him around thick clusters of trees or by the method I mentioned before. Don´t try to melee a troll at this early stage because he will stomp you into the ground. Use a bow.

If you have unlocked the special ability from the deer boss eiktyr use it to reduce stamina drain while you deal with the troll.

I don't suggest building bases outside of Meadows until you have a good understanding of how to keep mobs out of your base. Every other biome has a big nasty that will delete your base if you don't have a defendable setup.
