Why is no one linking to that?!

It sounds like the game was not properly saved when you exited. So, your character got saved, but not the world. When you exit valheim, make sure you do it properly using the exit button on the menu. Do not force valheim to close or use ALT+F4.

Also, consider manually saving the game before you quit by pressing save from the menu. If Valheim does not close properly, there will be problems like you describe.

It is important to understand that valheim actually makes 2 saves. There is the character save and the world save.

The problems you describe are related to world saves, not character saves. You may have created a second world without realizing it - double check to make sure you are on the correct world.

It is also possible to create these problems by toggling "Cloud Save" settings. If you change your cloud save settings you risk accidentally overwriting the world with a new world. Make sure you do not change your cloud save settings unless you know what you are doing.

hello, no i dont use any mod, this happen after i kill first boss and instead sleep at bed and save I save last game out at grass, out of my base. I manage to load a world earlier who had one earlier home, but not the one big i had, only problem is that first boss was alive again, and me i had the forshaken from it already so i rekill the boss using the forshaken as i taken little dmg from lighting. i ll try see if any file of install is corrupt as u said. also old file in local i dont have i have only in cloud. thanks

do i have somewhere local also the cloud files? i done the files check nothing was corrupted. thanks

Did you check cloud saves? It could be that your world was saved only in cloud so rolling back local saves won't do anything.
I think default save location is in cloud, so if you didn't change it when you started the game, you are probably looking in the wrong place.

also disable steam cloud while dong this, it may backup/restore the wrong ones foryou

Unfortunately the game saves after I kill the boss has error or some load with no houses built and I had in my area 6 bases, only a dev I thnik can see the error of save. Only I can do is restart the game from where I am as all world is like reset. and at least I have my main things in inventory. Just all i had in chests is lost. anyway thanks

I haven't had this myself so I can't promise I have a solution but if it is happening with old saves, saves that have loaded successfully in the past, I would probably pin it on how the game is installed.

Have you tried using Steam to verify the integrity of your game files? You can find this function by right clicking the game in your steam library, clicking properties, and then opening the 'local files' tab. With this you can scan your installation folder and Steam will automatically redownload any files that seem to be incorrect or missing.

Also when was the last time your saves loaded properly, and were you using any mods at the time?

Certain mods add persistent features which require foreign information to be injected into your saves in order to work properly. The outcome can be unpredictable (usually bad) when a new patch attempts to read that information, especially if the purpose of said information was to influence how vanilla data was used any way. Simply removing the mod is unlikely to work in this situation because the save itself has been modded.

I hope this is not the case. The devs have done their best to make old worlds forward-compatible but they don't go out of their way to also account for every potential mod conflict because of how impossibly large of a task that would be; a task that may also inhibit how official content can be expanded or enhanced.

keep checking backups and one should still work. check thier filesize. bigger filesize =probaly working.

make sure you backup THE WORLD SAVE. not the character save. they are seperate. there is 2 tabs under manage saves. as restoreing character backups does nothing for the world around you.

I tried saves of world the last is not loading says error I done two previous only I manage to show was one boar from two outside but no houses all world is like reset and has nothing I done and I was at day 42. Is anyway the devs to send them the saves? This is not normal to happen to a game. Ok is early access but is great dissapointment to me to lost the saves like this. Thanks I hope a dev to can help
