you have console disabled

enable it by adding as argument at startup

i've done the -console but still nothing registers in game when hitting F5.

where did you add this -console?
also some people reported that if there are multiple startup arguments then order seems to be important, I don't remember if -console had to be first or last tho

yes my f5 does not work as well even after putting in -console

Thanks for the reply Odin's Wholf. I'm certain i followed the instructions correctly, yet the console commands are not showing up.

As instructed, i went to my Steam Library-->Valheim-->Properties-->General Tab-->Launch Options and typed -console.
Despite that, F5 is still not bringing up the console commands in game. :(

just in case

you didn't add any spaces there, right?
like a space between - and console
or space before -console
or space after -console
(that's probably why odin asked for sceenshot, to see how you typed it AND to make sure you typed it in the valheim and not some other game)



also... do you start game throught steam library? or non-steam? (aka shortcut on desktop or throught files)
if you do it non-steam then you need to add -console directly to the startup file

you could try using Mods to enable the console.
you'll need:

Bepinex:
https://valheim.thunderstore.io/package/denikson/BepInExPack_Valheim/

and after installing Bepinex, install this:
https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/669

follow all the install directions for both mods, (its not hard....)

F5 should work after all is installed and world is loaded.

I am having this same exact problem. I have done everything mentioned above but F5 is still not bringing up the console. I do not want to use mods.

EDIT: I found by pressing Shift F5 brought up the console.

maybe some program or controller is hijacking keyboard when you press F5 alone?
there were people with similar problem... but it was middle mouse button in their case,
something in background was hijacking the button and game didn't register it

Thanks for the responses everyone. Similar to you DeadMilkman, I ended up using Function + F5 and THAT finally brought up the console.

Yesterday i was reading this very thread and was playing around with console commands and today for some unknown reason i am now unable to access the console when i press F5 really strange, As nothing has changed is there some kinda fix to re-enable opening the console ?.

I have the exact same issue. Typed exactly "-console" without quotes or spaces, and in game I can't open the console by pressing F5, shift+F5, ctrl+F5, or Fn+F5. Nothing seems to work and I don't know what to do about it...

You could try playing the game normally, as intended.
