Playing Valheim: The plan vs how it really goes

I think this is quite recognizable for a lot of those playing the game:

The plan:
- Find myself a nice seed with an island offering at least 2 (Meadows + one other) biomes for a temporary base
- Finding a larger island with a Draugr village at a hill top to become my main base; preferable with 4-5 biomes. Reason I want a Draugr village: because it does have defences and because I want to contain their spawner so I can "harvest" intestines.
- Set up a small base, while l work at getting the first two bosses defeated.

- How things really go:

- Found a nice seed with an island large enough to hold 3 villages, meadows, creeks - so lots of Neck hunting - some Black Forest - but no copper - and one village is close to water and on a hilltop.
To make things better; there's another island not that far sailing away having 4 biomes and a Draugr village close to the coast.
- Build a workshop in the coastal village and repaired one house.
- Decided the house is too small and demolished it to build higher walls and another roof type.
- Build a Dirt-wall around the first area and dug out a moat. Build a palisade wall at the dirt wall.
- Decided the house is not big enough, so build a bigger one with enough room for the workbench, forge and their upgrades. Added 2x3 fire places to make sure I won't get cold.
- Set up 5 beehives to harvest the honey;
- Build a smelter, a Coal maker and - after I got Bronze - a Karve and a cart
- Expanded the house even more so I could get a "seperate" bedroom;
- Set up a farm field around the beehives to start growing and harvesting carrots.
- Sails to the starting island to mine copper and wonders if it would be a good idea to cut down some pine and use the core wood to build some guard towers near the gates and at the corners.

- Starts to realise the temperary base is becoming more and more permanent. :steamfacepalm:
- Wonders if it's still a good idea to conquer the Draugr village and turn it into a permanent base; other as harvesting the intestines and knowing it's on an island having Meadows, Black Forest, Plains and Swamp,,,,,,,,

I get why digging works the way it does, but I do wonder if something could be done to make it so you could dig into the side of a mountain. Like if you build support and trusses using core wood beams right at the base and the beams touch the stone |--/\ then it will allow you to dig forward at that height capped by your beam height until you connect another support beam into the rock face. This would effectively be like digging a mine shaft forward and then you can expand it inside.

With their current terrain system no. If they were to switch to voxel based terrain, we could dig tunnels. I don't think they will ever switch though.

Accurate depiction, you only missed the inevitable trench warfare that happens around your "temporary" base hahahaha

All that work for nothing, lol.
i did this twice now i have a much different outlook on priorities in the game lol.

Lol we have a small village of about 9-10 buildings, a few large fields etc... it was just going to be an shack with beds etc for our first copper mining. Still use the town, but have since started building a new one... eventually we will likely have towns all over our world.

Usually my game goes:
"Find a nice open spot. Build a nice house."
"Ten seconds after putting the last board in, trolls come to say hi."
"Hide in house."
"..."

It took two times for me to realize why that was a *bad* idea. Two. My brain not work good. Maybe I should go clubbing less...

I've killed the first 4 bosses now on second run. And I am still living out of my "starter base". It has everything I need. And I wasn't going to hang any heads until I beat them all, but apparently I did last night. Also somehow I lost my carve? Where the F is my carve? Still have my longboat and enough marked copper to build 20 carves, but it isn't the point.
