This game had so much potential - what happened?
was reminded of this game when some update thing popped up in my library despite having it uninstalled for over a year. What happened to Valheim? Feels like everyone was obsessed with it for about a week then it disappeared. Personally I never got into it, someone gifted it to me and i dropped it after a few hours because it felt so unfinished and overrated at the time. But it definitely had potential. I was planning to try and get back into it when the devs finally finished the game but as far as I can tell from briefly skimming through the forum nothing has changed? Just another of those weird viral pandemic games like Among Us I guess

And it still does, its still being worked on but players are fickle and have short attention spans for the most part and need a constant dose of content or they get whiny. Buying (or being gifted) a EA game comes with the expectation that things may take time to happen or at a rate that the average gamer cant fathom.

What happened? The devs released an EA game, completely failed and deleted their roadmap and continue to take month long summer holidays in spite of it and are enjoying their millions.

Nothing happened. The game is playable right now, and the people who like it are still playing. Business is good. Thousands of people all over the world are playing Valheim at this very moment.

It's a solid game, but it kind of just bothers me almost 2 years or so have passed and we've had only like what, the home and hearth update for cosmetic stuff and a little bit more gameplay content? Haven't touched it in a very long time seeing that very little has changed.

What happened? A million people bought an Early Access game which gave the developers no pressure in actually either finishing the game, or getting content out at a reasonable time. They already have your money and most likely won't get much ROI after their successful launch. From a business standpoint, they are doing it right. But this is why I don't buy Early Access games anymore. Too many never release, or popular ones get dropped, significantly slowed, or rushed to say it is done and people are often never felt with a fully "finished" game.

Pretty amazing game, tbh. But only if you appreciate the base building. The base building is what feeds every other gameplay system... or rather every gameplay system feeds into the base building. So if you don't like the base building, all you have is a basic combat system and procedurally generated areas and a pretty world. But if you like the base building, all of that stuff becomes valuable as it provides materials. You level up your character and improve your armor/weapons (which itself can comprise many hours of gameplay) so that you can survive in more hostile areas so that you can acquire new materials for base building. Base building is at the... base of it all. If you like the base building at all, there is a ton of content to enjoy. If you're looking for an action rpg or something, there isn't. You become very attached to your creations and the world feels like a home away from home. It elevates everything you do in the game. I've had it since launch and just managed to break 100 hours into it. I played it on and off and took a long break, but it is an amazing game and I can see myself putting many hundreds more into it. I know this is a troll thread, but it's leagues better than Amogus.
