i learned this the hard way in the plains, was scouting on top of a goblin hut tower thing and slid right off, survived barely and proceeded to run from an untamed group of lox nearby, fearing squitos every step...

I would say "just" 100+ is too lenient. While 100+ is technically survivable for any single fall, you're NOT guaranteed to strike the ground only once in the mountains.
Bounce sideways on an angled rock or terrain protrusion that strips a full 100 and then catapults you further down... and you could easily be looking at a total 150+ fall damage, for a single jump.

Feather cape is not available when you first enter the mountains unless you use console commands or get gear/materials from another character.

I have yet to get the feather cape and tbh it would probably be most useful in the mountains and getting it so late in the game seems underwhelming

Also, be aware that your food buffs diminish over time... you might be over 100 hp right now, but in a few minutes...
