I find the best weapon is the Draugr fang bow with either fire arrows flinthead arrows iron bronze all of the strong opiercing but it helps if you wear the the right armor and your skills are pretty high with the bow.

Go up on top of a rock and make sure you have the higher ground, then jump right on top of him and pickaxe him to death. You can rodeo him out like this for a good few seconds, allowing you do deal large amounts of damage. He will eventually throw you off. So just rinse and repeat.

However I would avoid fighting golems altogether for now. They don't drop anything of use atm. Crystals have yet to have a use in game.

Ehm it is true that golems are training dummies to rise bow skill but golems are almost inmune to piercing damage

Or just use an iron mace and a silver shield to parry them , it consume less time than that really

Iron mace has the highest dps against golems , more than frostner and porcuspine , pickaxe sux because is so sloooow and u cant parry with it , criticals of 50 when iron mace do a stagg damage of 180-200 lol

For weapons you'll have going into mountains the damage (ignoring skill lvl and assuming each weapon is maxed) per hit is:
Iron Mace is 73
Pickaxe does 48 x 2.5 due to the golem being very weak to pickaxes and resistant to piercing, so 120 damage.

The Iron Mace however attacks faster and can combo giving it a higher dps, but can be more risky as it requires you finishing the 3 hit combo to get the benefit of double damage from the last hit. Bad timing means a guaranteed hit from the Golem. You'll need a fully upgraded banded shield or better plus a high block level to block/parry.
The pickaxe you want to jump attack because having it hit an object at the same time reduces damage by 33%
So they have their tradeoffs and it's really about your approach.

But don't use Frostner against Golems when you get it. Golems are immune to both spirit and frost, which means only 30% of its damage has any effect at all, that's 35 points regular damage.

From the Wiki, Don't know if it's true :

"The best way to kill them is to parry their attacks with a shield and then use the 3 hit combo with Iron mace or Porcupine to deplete half of their health during the stagger. This doesn't work against the slower attack because it has a very low stagger duration.

Pickaxes are another good way to kill them because they are vulnerable to Pickaxe damage which means pickaxes deal 2.5x damage against them (0.5x comes from the Pierce damage). However slower attack speed, lower base damage and lack of hit combo means that Iron pickaxe will deal less damage than the maces. Pickaxes are also harder to use because the shield can't be equipped at the same time and requires manually switching the weapons. On top of that, pickaxes very easily get a 33% damage penalty when the attack hitbox intersects with the ground. This can be mitigated by doing jump attacks, having higher ground or standing very close to the target but it's not reliable."

Harpoon
Dig a hole and drop them in it. Put a bench near by to prevent despawn and collect some free drops from wolves and drakes as change.

Yup, i too make a hole, simple as that. Figure it out after you get him in there.

yeah there is no good weapon to fight them with sadly i found that the pickaxe does good damage but good luck hitting them with a pick axe enough to kill it i normally just hit it over and over until it finally dies from being smack to death

Pickaxes are the only weapon type they are weak to. You'll need to dodge their attacks, and then jump attack with a pickaxe from behind. You can attack without jumping but that's just as likely to end up with a hole in the ground causing you more issues. Dodge, don't try to block with the pickaxe the Golems hit too hard.

damn i guess I need to carry two pickaxes in the mountains, one for minding down the rocks and killing stone golems, the other solely for silver

what is their loot used for anyway? i think its some shards or something

someone ran tests somewhere, iron mace, frostner i think were the highest DPS, look it up

black metal shield to parry and porkîne mace did good job.
