Do you think this game could have had a brother (or sister) game, set in Greek mythology?

Like Titan-Quest for example, which has both a Greek and Scandinavian settings. And if so, what sort of monsters do you think might have made an appearance?

Hey folks,

please stay on-topic of a hypothetical Greek myth game.

Have a good day!

I suspect IG have been generalizing Valheim's framework to support a variety of myth-based games. If they cannot develop every possibility themselves, they can make arrangements with other teams of developers for royalties or glory.

Another possibility is to grow IG, adding teams to work on other Valheim-based games. This would depend on the success of Valheim, of course.

As long as it is made by the same developer, No. Given the data so far, Never. It will be years from now before they deliver on their initial "first year" roadmap.

Only possiblity is if they dropped this entirely and started their next project based on this title.

Personally, I'd rather see them (IGS):

1. Get to a good "stopping point" with current Valheim. Maybe the major Mistlands release and an update or two after?
2. Shift development to an Engine of their own, so they can break away from Unity.
3. Re-release Valheim in a better state overall using said Engine.

That being said, though, such a task could take years in and of itself. Porting what we have now to said Engine could take longer yet depending on the languages used, limitations of Unity that may have been coded around, etc.

However, this is assuming they can't use what they have already to get around the limitations the game currently has when it comes to things like altering the land. Personally I'd love to see the ability to generate cave systems within the world on world creation, the ability for the player to utilize/make their own caves, etc.

Plus.. an inner-earth biome where we fought the world serpent would be both relevant and pretty awesome. Would also give us a chance to see more of Haldor and/or his brethren, assuming they come from within the world itself.

But in a Greek mythos setting? We'd definitely see Gorgon, Bulls, Serpents of various descriptions, Basilisks maybe, Minotaur, Centaur? could be neat, although I'm personally more of a fan of Norse stuff.

I mean, it's already pretty sketchy if we ever see a Mac version of Valheim, and that with an engine that is fully supported on the Mac and just a build away from being published. Why they don't do it is, well, not a mystery, it's most likely support. :P

A handcrafted engine has about a snowflakes chance in hell to ever being ported to the Mac.

So, no, I don't want to see them moving to their own engine. Unity is "good enough(tm)". Why change it?
