the first chicken i got died because the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bat swarm event came in and killed it minutes after it hatched. now i only had enough gold to buy a 2nd egg. keeping this chicken inside my house so it doesn't die in a random event again. but it won't lay any eggs.

the thing ate 100 barley and it still won't lay anything.

well sorry, none of my grandfathers hens crowed, besides that was apathetic attempt at crowing by one and the other looked like it was changing sex, they do often. I would like it if they crowed less at least.

I know they need to be outside, but no idea how to prevent the bats from killing them except maybe rase your chicken on another server where you haven't been in a ice cave?

Yes, you need 2 female chickens to have sex so they can lay eggs. Everything about the chickens is wrong.
I don't know what realm Haldor got these eggs from but he should ask questions next time.
Would have rather had wild chickens in the game than rabbits, would like to tame all the things than just a couple of the things. Don't really like the concept of Haldor in general and having these things be gated behind other unlocks sucks.

You purchased the eggs from a merchant in a society known to be magical which can breed chickens with other chickens, it isn't a normal chicken. Anyone want any chicken milk?

We raised chickens for eggs when I was a kid, and hens DO crow, just not generally as often as roosters do. Google it, it's a real thing.

Well kinda sorta but not really. Everything empties into their cloaca and they just evert it. A friend of mine is a vet. Interesting fact about chicken hens, only one ovary works. If you surgically remove the working one the other turns into a nonfunctional testicle.
