Who else hopes no more patches drop?
Just out of curiosity, are we (me 7 the mrs) the only people here who hope no patches drop until major content is released?
All it really seems to do is break the game, which out of necessity, was modded. Then one needs to wait with a broken game until the mods are patched. Given the minor issues that are being resolved, and considering the headaches they bring, we fear the update button at this time.

no mods, game just works, maybe a bug or 2 no problem, you mod the game, things can happen, an update might break a mod or 2, and maybe it doesn't break a mod at all, if you mod the game like me and something does break, don't go nagging and whining about it, just wait until the author of the mod that broke patches it so it works again, have patience. posting stuff the way you just did isn't helping the mod community keeping its good name

Considering modders have made more content than the devs, I agree with the OP!

Funny... I have completely played through the game solo, 3 times, up to what is currently the "end-game" (plains), and have never "needed" any mods... Always just played vanilla.
Truth be known, I actually tried a few mods, early on, and discovered that it made things too easy and also changed the game too far away from what the base game is, so i deleted all the mods and won't be using mods ever again (don't need them)... and never have to wait around for some mod author to update their mod after every patch.
I wouldn't get too set on using mods (unless you realize you have to wait for updates), because its POSSIBLE the devs won't incorporate any mods into their game, unless they see some minor mods that they feel the game would be better off having (at the end of development)... Go read the pinned thread "FAQ"... here's a quote
Will there ever be official mod support?
"We probably won't have any official mod support, but it isn't set in stone. Mod support is however not a high priority, so please take caution while downloading and using mods."

IMHO if the OP feels that mods are a "necessity" to play this game, they should make a suggestion in the Suggestion forum to have the functionality of the mod added to the game. If the developers don't do it, there might've not been enough demand for it, or they think it will harm their vision of the game.
The OP is then still free to use a mod to have that functionality added. Just don't complain if a patch to the game will break that mod.

No. The devs should be focusing on the vanilla experience since that is the vision they have for this game. If you or any one else feels the need to change that experience with 3rd party mods, that is on you and you'll need to understand that things can and will break.

I wish people modding the game would not do this kind of posts. You do not help the modding community with these types of posts one single bit.

I agree, @Horemvore.
Mods are a nice thing when the people realise what they are and what they do. Unfortunately, no modding website I have seen actually warns people about the consequences of using mods, so it's a bit on the modders as well.

The solution isn't. There is no straightforward way to turn off auto updates. There is a series of steps that can be taken to.. temporarily stop them, but requires you to start the game in offline mode. There may be some way to do it with a dedicated server since I only checked into it for my own purposes (dealing with a flaky ISP).

Just playin with no mods now. Fine game on basic. So the torches go out and the wood turns green. No big deal.

Just realized that @blprice61 is right. I always thought that you could turn off updates for games. I still think this used to be possible in older Steam versions.
Guess not anymore. A giant step back in user friendliness IMHO. But then we know it's all about money rather than taking care of your customer...

Older Steam UI made it sound like you could, but you couldn't even then - was just a poor choice of wording - much like some of my posts.
[edit] Also, there was, and may still be, a time limit on how long you could play a game in offline mode. It was a number of months, but eventually couldn't launch without connection (discovered by going without a real ISP for awhile a few years back).

Well, that's Steam for you. It's a nice and handy store and repository for games, but it's also a nifty DRM and forced-obsolescence mechanism...
Well, we knew that from the start. *shrug*
I wish they would put Valheim on GOG, but then Steam has much farther reach, which is important for small indie developers.

Turn off auto-update for this game. Update it when you are ready. Boom. Problem solved.
Wrong.

The game is in EA.
Patches of all sizes are to be expected.
There is no necessity to mod the game as it stands now (I would be curious as to your arguments) and mod issues are not the fault of the developers. The best you can do is hope your favorite mod authors keep their mods current.
A mod less game is by no means broken or unplayable.
Best solution is as @aSweatyGuy offered.
