I managed to get back an older character, but I'm missing a lot of my stuff. Basically I have nothing but a hammer now. So that's fun... At least I have some skills, I guess.

Also ran into a problem where I couldn't connect to my server anymore. It didn't time out or error, it just wouldn't react when I clicked the button. I had to manually clear out the contents of the server list files (but not delete the files, else they'd just be pulled back down from the Cloud).

Same thing happened to me today, and so far I haven't been able to recover an older version. This bug has been around for literally years now. I expect it will never be fixed. My time playing may be coming to an end.

I seem to recall other threads were this was discussed with a very definitive solution.
Maybe mod related but I can't find that so possibly just corrupted save (character and/or world) because crash / shutdown / no time for steam to sync.

The general recommendation is to disable cloud saves completely but it's working fine for some.

Never happened to me.

It hasn't happened to me but here is what I would do.

First, before doing anything else, make a backup of your save folder so you can always restore to the current state if "fixes" don't work.

Then, I would read through this post about restoring earlier saves. Hopefully it's not too late.

I backup the entire save folder before every game session and have the save from the previous session as well. I never lose more than a few hours of progress.

I was able to restore my character through the in game backup menu.
