Burial Chambers

Started exploring some burial chambers on the second land mass took my raft to in this game. I figured that after I clear it of all the Skeletons, then I can build my next base inside or at least refurnish the place with a worktable and cot.

Is this possible?

I'm not sure about the burial chambers, but there are definitely sounds in the swamp where there is no creature. It's just an ambient sound.

It was a little disconcerting crawling through it, because there is no map. Do you think the devs will add one? It would be nice.

Also, I kept hearing a low, sinister roar. I thought there was a mini-boss at the center of the dungeon. I ran out and stored all my excess loot and came back, but there was nothing there. lol They should add a creature to go with that sound effect.

1. Best advice for crypts of any sort or ice caves later is to pick a left or right and then clear always going in that direction. Eventually you're find yourself back at the entrance. That's the easiest way to navigate just follow a wall.

2. There are alot of atmospheric sounds in the crypts etc. You'll come to experientially differentiate the sounds from threats from that.

As suggested above, always turn left, or right and you won't get lost. Or more precisely you will be sure that you've been everywhere and get back to where you started.

I also put a campfire in the first room. That makes it easier to navigate when you see that glow down a hallway. You can also refresh your rest bonus, without getting smoked, if you sit just outside the front room.

The crypts have a "soundtrack" that keeps sounding creepy even after you cleared it. The mobs in there make noise too. It takes awhile to tell them apart.

Don't go in there until your armor is at least level 10. I learned that after many permadeath attempts.

That's the way I do it. It works well.
The Burial Chambers are indeed deliciously creepy with those sound effects, but that's all they are - sound effects. Other than the skeleton noises, you have zero chance of encountering whatever made those noises. Still, I hope they change that, maybe adding rock falls or some kind of mini boss. I also hope for some forthcoming upper tier pick ax that lets you break through dead ends into something even more sinister.

This takes me back to 1999-2000... Odin's sweaty sack... man, I spent so much time in that dungeon...

To go back on topic, some of the sounds in the dungeons do not always reflect what's in the dungeon, in my experience. Also, no map is really needed. Follow a wall around the whole of the place and you will eventually get back to where you started. For me.... I usually go right, cause it's right, right?

If your talking about the black forest one's, than sometimes that noise lets you know there is a Ghost nearby. I also love the stagebreaker for those places (works in crypts too). But yeah a mini boss sounds great!

Always turn left when you are in Burial Chambers or Crypts and you will never get lost even without a map.

I don't think they'll add a map. I think they're intended to be a labrynth of sorts to give you the added job of navigation so your more likely to poop your pants when you come across an unexpected monster while you were trying to remember which way to go

I favour the labyrinth style too, mini-boss sounds great too, but the sound gives me the scare most of the time

By the way if you are using a spear you can't seem to hit most skeleton spawners.

Good to know when I want to visit the treasure room beyond, without destroying the spawner.

Look for the purple smoking pile and smash it. There's usually a treasure room right after. Careful, cause those things can spawn starred skeletons and the rancid green ones too.

If there's a convenient door in the way, a stagbreaker can AOE through the door. Sometimes the pile is in range and sometimes it's not, but it will thin out the herd.

There are an unlimited number of skeletons in most, for there are spawners.

Did you ever see those pink/purple props in black forest, with greydwarves meeting around? This is the same in burrial chambers, for skeletons.
The strategy is also the same: locate and target the spawner first to avoid fighting a large number of enemies... or let them stand, and fight as many ennemies as you want, to collect loot and train your fighting skills (both as character and as a player).
Given the number of chambers in game, you should really need but one such training room, so choose one wich is convenient, and with manageable spawning rate and difficulty (not all seem to behave the same, but I may be wrong). In particular, it's best when the spawner is far away from entrance, with a door that can seal the area: you can leave the training session and close the door without triggering too much skeletons. Remember that they can break open doors if they sense you.

You can squeeze the essentials into a Troll cave outer chamber and fence it off. Otherwise no. It's a shame too, since the containers don't respawn.

Unfortunately no. Which is understandable, the interiors don't exist on the regular map, and enemies can't come or go from them.

What you CAN do though is dig out under a boss platform (such as the Elder) and make your base there, which isn't quite the same thing but still fun.

Inside the burial chamber, no. Outside on top of it and around it, yes. Only thing you can build in a chamber is campfire & cooking station.
