Didn't realize that every hater of Hearth & Home is a game dev now

Find it a little funny that the devs put their rather small teams time and effort to put out a nice quality of life update but people are trashing on it cause of how long it took. I must have missed the part where everyone knows how game development works. Yes with the amount of content added to the game it was disappointing how long it took but that doesn't mean the devs don't care or made a bunch of money and are abandoning the games dream. We have no idea what happens with the game whether it be balancing, issues models, bugs etc. At the end of the day we all love and want to see Valheim prosper. For a $20 game I can say this is one of the best survival games made imo and have certainly gotten my fun and enjoyment with the game and that'll continue to be the case however long they take with the games updates and additions. I can't say there are many games out there with that price tag and have gotten the same amount of hours put into it. Long development times are disappointing and annoying most of the time but the end results are usually worth it so they don't come out buggy so that the people that are mad about the wait aren't mad about the bugs and while it may not be a huge update Hearth & Home is a good addition to the game, can't wait to see more content that Iron Gate puts out for this amazing game.

Hear ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hear! This has been a great update, and people really need to reign in their expectations. This is a studio of 6 people (maybe more? I have not checked) working on a 3d sandbox survival game. Hell look at Stardew Valley, the dev on that game is just one guy, and he takes up to over a year to put out new content updates, while also bug fixing things players report to him on. And Stardew Valley is aguably easier to code because it's 2d isometric. Try coding and animating a 3d game with only 6 or so people.

It all takes time, regardless of the type of game it is.

You don’t need to be a chef to be a food critic, same applies here, if people don’t like something you’re going to be told about it, it’s the internet

Hello :)

I am actually a game developer, haven't released anything, still in college but I would be capable of implementing the features brought out in this update, I really haven't noticed anything different apart from some food rework that seems to have reduced stamina dramatically, I think I saw some new building structures that's about all I've really noticed.

Personally, I played when the game first came out, got to Iron stage and got bored playing solo, my friends wanted to play something else, so I only started playing again yesterday with a friend. I thought it was pretty cool that there was even an update and it was made out to be a pretty substantial one.

I don't know if the developers made out that this was a huge update or if the community were just hyped but I can understand why people would be disappointed if they were super hyped for large amount of new content or whatever.

My opinion on the situation, I don't think stamina management is a very fun aspect of the game, I think exploration, crafting and progressions are what makes the game really fun. I don't understand why they made it so food now gives less stamina, it wasn't an issue and it doesn't improve the overall experience of the game, as mentioned, stamina management now feels like a bigger concept to the game and it's not a particularly entertaining game mechanic.

I waited a day for the update as I was unaware there was even going to be one. As far as reworking the food system, that could be done extremely quickly, that's just altering some scripts, could be done in half a day, less even, if it was just a case of changing the health and stamina food items give, that would take less than 10 minutes to change.

Some people have talked about waiting months for this update, I have no idea what aspects took months to create as the game seems no different apart from the food and stamina thing.

Did they add new creatures or items to the game? Designing characters/creatures can take months, 3D modelling can be a very slow and painful process... Apart from that maybe I'm just to early in the game to have felt the effects of these new updates

It's just as valid to dislike something in this update as it is to be happy with it. Some of us dislike certain aspects of the H&H update. I actually have no issue with the volume of new content, that stuff takes time and I understand that. I do have issues with some of the changes and I'm being vocal about it because if I'm not then they (Devs) won't get the message.

That's as nauseating as white knights deflecting valid criticism starting out with You obviously don't develop games.. I do and here's why mismanaging EA is perfectly acceptable... blah blah.

Yeah so tell me you are a terrible coder/project manager without saying you're a terrible coder/project manager.

That's the problem with society and the internet these days. Everyone wants it right now, wants it perfect, and if it's not, they complain. I miss the old days where if you beat a game, it took a few years for the next one. I get it, not everyone was affected adversely by the pandemic. If you weren't, congratulations. (sarcasm, deal with it)

You're right, everyone is a critic. Sometimes though, it's okay to not be hypercritical of everything.

Yeah so tell me you are a terrible coder/project manager without saying you're a terrible coder/project manager.

Oh man, calling anyone who disagrees with you and offers a thought out rational explanation as to why, a "white knight" totally is a solid counter argument. You should totally be on a debate team....

You do realise that the person you are quoting is critiquing the argument of the OP and using it against them and you are mad he is doing so?

This update has a food rework and new building prefabs, that’s it.

Took them long enough.

Thank you. He got triggered by the first word and then never read the rest apparently.

I'm 130 hours deep... and I cannot understand people's overreaction to this chill game. Like... I do not feel as strongly 130 hours in, as people do after only playing for 20hours.

People just want to be pissy, and throw a tantrum about something. I'm personally happy with this, and i've no idea if I will enjoy a new biome when it's ready. I'll likely need to make a new world, which would be a bummer to start over.

tl'dr people suck, i'm happy with this update

He's not actually, the attempted comparison is nowhere near equivalent. Apples and Potatoes.
