Is the performence still bad?

Hey guys, i played this game a while ago and i remember playing alot and building a really really big compound. But the bigger it got, the perfomance just died. IT was really laggy and stuttering all around. The FPS was just trashing. Is that still the case when you build alot?

Could it be a problem with AMD/Radeon systems? Your system should be quiet similar to mine. Maybe 10-20 FPS lower, but you wrote about constant 10-15 FPS prior.

Someone from our group got a GeForce 3090 RTX with AMD Ryzen 7 5800 and has a lot more FPS than me. He always plays with 100+ even in mainbase with all entitys. At least it doesn't drop below 70 for me / even in the worst situations. Mostly I play 100-144 FPS while exploring. Mistlands maybe 10 FPS less compared, because of the mist.

Try to configure your boot.ini (just google-you'll find) / set priority in task manager to "high", deactivate steam overlay, start the game in "window mode fullscreen", etc.

I, who plays with 10 fps (i7 9750H, GTX 1650, 16GB ram), have tried all boot configs, launch options, priorities and what not, can say it doesn't really work. The funny thing is, it used to run good enough prior to this update, so whatever they did just straight up ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up.

Sometimes when updates break games I find it helps to delete game files and config and make steam redownload them. Mods too if you have them. Even if there's nothing discernibly wrong with them, and you just paste the old contents straight back into the config files, it sometimes seems to make a difference. Dunno if it will help in this case but as valheim is such a little download maybe worth a shot.

I get momentary freezing even when I'm just wandering around (it's not the world save). Honestly not sure what's going on with the game.

It got a lot better for me around large/many buildings, along with the aforementioned change to modified terrain, but multiplayer is still pretty bad when you are nearby other people. Unfortunate given it's the main reason I wanted to play.

Can confirm this.
Since Mistlands our whole group noticed "reload jerking" / this wasn't before the update. It comes from time to time, but most of all in Mistlands itself, when "there was a lot going on".

I forgot about it - thanks for mentioning. This is really an issue that should be addressed.

Can't confirm.
With an Intel 10900k, 16GB RAM and RTX 2070 Super which is a mid class system - I have continuous 100-144 fps in between on highest game settings possible.

Just in my mainbase after building thousands of entitys and animals jumping around it drops down to 70 FPS +/- which is average and absolutely playable.

I'm running the game on DirectX (not Vulcan), but I configured my boot.ini (gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1, etc.), deactivated steam overlay, every save file local, set Task Manager priority to high and enabled window mode.

I highly recommand doing all these things (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAUiwMLH6AA) and play a little bit with your in-game configuartions/settings, if you have a low class PC.

Things I can confirm is the multiplayer lag - There is no solution after all (just some tweaks you need script knowledge for your dll's) if 4+ players joins on a dedicated server, because of the peer-to-peer driven server model the game has hard coded.

I often have a steady 20 fps with a pc that should get more than a 100 fps. (got the amd radeon rx 5700 xt and amd ryzen 5 3600x with 16GB), I even had gpu crashes when playing for a while on a friend's server. Yes my drivers are all updated. Also switching from 4k to 1080p (or even 1440P) doesn't even increase performance or lowering graphical options. It's just plainly bad performance.

The terrain was fixed, but yes, the performance is still bad even for the best systems.

So its still the same. What a shame. i Really loved this game for its freedom and the building. But when i cant really build big without playing with 15fps or lower, its no from me. Maybe they focus on fixing that instead of making new content.

Yes still pretty piss-poor. When you have really big constructions, things can get very laggy. With some buddy, we tried to replicate the Winterfell castle form Game of Thrones, and half-way through, after many many weeks spet, it got so laggy [I was getting sub-15 fps on an RTX 3090 and Ryzen 9 5950x) as soon as you entered the area that construction became too dangerous (jumping form laders in high towers would often result in death and then lost skills). And that was before any inside decorations were really made.

If they don't optimise the engine before release, that will probably stay a beautiful, but niche game.

That used to be the case when you did a lot of terrain manipulation.

The devs changed that a WHILE back. Terrain manipulation no longer creates lag. Way back, each terrain edit you did would stack infinitely instead of overwriting. This would add up very quick and cause insane lag on large flattened areas or places where you made paths.

The system now overwrites each old edit instead of stacking them. No lag whatsoever from terrain now.
