RTX 3080 performance is horrible? is this a known issue?

for the past week or so since i got my RTX 3080 i've had nothing but horrible performance on Valheim. i barely seem to get over 20fps in game, and hardly get 25fps on the main menu.
i realized that every time i reinstall the GPU drivers the game's performance actually gets normal again, but after every computer restart the game's perfomance goes to ♥♥♥♥ again.
i had a RTX 3070 and a GTX 970 before that and both were running the game so much better than the RTX 3080 so idk what gives? is this a known issue?
like i said, it seems the only fix i was able to find is to reinstall the GPU driver after every time i turn on my computer.

any other game runs smooth as butter for me and significantly better on the 3080 than on the 3070 and obviously the 970, so obviously the GPU hardware itself isn't faulty here.

the game is just unoptimized.

Which is almost exactly WHAT i SAID.

The game isn't updated to use the 3080 series or is not optimised is saying the same thing.

What I would suggest to the OP is to check their temperatures, see if their 3080 is defaulting to standard fan speeds, which might be causing the gpu to overheat and thus cause lowered fps rates. There's been a few posts about issues with background gpu softwares resetting everytime they loaded the game. Also happens with other games.

Those saying they aren't having any issues with the same card, might also state how they're setup, if they had any issues when first running etc. It could be a specific manufacture difference or set of drivers. Could be they use a different 3rd party software or bios to setup fan speeds etc.

I don't think this is very good advice at all.

If he hasn't updated his drivers, he should.

Yesterday after installing No Man's sky the game would freeze HARD the moment my character moved. I had to do 3 hard computer reboots to get out of it. I went to Windows update, and it said I was using the latest drivers. However when I actually went to nvidia's site I found out I wasn't so I manually installed the newest driver and that fixed my problem.

I'm not saying drivers are for sure his problem, but if his mower won't start the first thing is to check the tank for gas.

Updating his drivers will at least eliminate one possible cause.

This also makes sense, even if you are running latest drivers, there's no harm in uninstalling them, then reinstalling them. Sometimes installing software after drivers can cause that software to overrule or change defaults that the drivers would otherwise govern. In the past, it was sage advice to reinstall sound, video drivers after installing new software.

Does the texture mod pack make decent improvements?

unlike what martin said, it has nothing to do with your drivers.

the game is just unoptimized. the majority of the time it doesnt even have anything to do with your GPU. valheim is CPU heavy. and it doesnt help that it basically bottlenecks itself because it doesnt utilize multicores very well. pretty much anything with more than 4 cores is a waste.

this has been one of the biggest complaints since the games release. seriously theres at least a post a day about it on steam or reddit, and its always followed by random false reasons that people just make up.

bottom line, the game is not optimized. there have been several posts about it on reddit where folks have gone deep into the issues of the game code.

I installed a mod that basically allows you to pause the game. It not only stops time but it stops graphically rendering the game and shows you a screenshot instead in order to save resources.

Despite the game being paused, task manager shows that valheim.exe is still using 30% of my CPU. * WHILE PAUSED *.

Yeah, I'd say this game is still unoptimized.

I have i7 8700k and RTX 3090. I can get 165 FPS (my monitors native refresh) while sailing and away from land but once I get into my main fortress I get around 80-90 FPS. 1440p.

I also lose major frames the longer I play the game and travel to multiple areas. One really long play session saw me start to average 60 FPS with dips into the 40.

Most likely it's just that the newer hardware drivers aren't updated to the software being run, ie your hardware is too new for the software. Developers tend to support the avg user, not the 1% the vast majority cannot and probably never will be able to afford a 30x series of gpu. or any cutting edge tech. Maybe by the time nv bring out the 40x series you'll find the 30x all work perfectly.. but by then you'll have bought a new 40x series and will be complaining it doesn't work as well as expected.
