Why is it even possible...

...to plant crops too close together? This just seems like a purpsoeful n00b trap that adds nothing to the game.

For goodness' sake, you already have it so things can't be placed literally on top of one another, but you couldn't extend that forbidden zone to prevent crops dying off from careless placement, or give any kind of indication before planting that it's too close? Really lame, guys. Really, really, really lame. Really.

I see reading and using brain isn't all that common here. Lesson learned.

I've not learned anything new from any of this.

There are many other potential ways of improving agriculture features in the game, but trivializing the only interaction between the player character and the crops that actually has an impact in the game isn't the way to do it.

On the one hand, I like the farming and don't mind the limitation, however have to agree that:

With everything else, if you make a mistake you can de-construct it and get 100% of the resources back. Bees not happy - keep moving them around until they are. Zero penalty.

Not so with seeds. If you plant any crop (or tree) and it cannot grow (not enough room, under a roof overhang, wrong biome) ... all you can do is destroy it.

Pretty sure it's a n00b mistake we've all made at least once ... but frustrating to score your first carrot seeds and then waste them. Or finally score the barley/flax ... plant it ALL just to find out it doesn't grow in your biome! Ouch!

Sure, mods again to the rescue. However the vanilla game could easily prevent you from planting mistakes OR instead of destroying them, allowing you to get the seed back.

It's always seemed odd to me that seed is the one and only "destructible" thing I can think of in the entire game. Mobs can level your entire base but you get all of the resources back to rebuild ... but crops get vaporized. (I keep "backup" seeds in a chest in case of emergency now.)

There is so much to love about Valheim, it really is these little things that can get under a player's skin. Which is probably why there are over 1500 mods. :steamhappy:

What's the problem? Just press "c" to walk, then walk in a straight line and left click when the plant turns from red to green. Spacing is perfect every time, no mods necessary.

I would like at least the 'remove' button/function on my controller to actually work[there is a prompt/hint on screen to do it]?!! Or, perhaps NOT allowing the seed to be planted, much like the 'red' hue things get when 'too close' or 'overlapping'.....it's like the intent is to make you misplant a seed??! Huh? Enjoy the mechanic, needs some desperate tweaking...just a little.

Because wasting your time and resources for no reason makes this game "hardcore".

You seem to do just fine posting with your eyes closed, though.

Chill man haha.

Oh wait, they do have to :jestinfection:

This is not a valid argument for any video game. Games are not supposed to be like real life. Quite the opposite in fact. Games should be unrealistic, and they are.

If I wanted to play real life I would.

Yeah, it's pretty dumb. Just another reason to download Valheim Plus and activate the part that stops you from planting things too close to each other.

You'll get a feeling for that once you've practiced it enough.

It adds reality and immersion and if it also keeps away all the arcade players you can just give me more of it.
