The purpose is "progressing" ..... and you get attacked every now and then and sometimes raids start.
And no, nothing to hire, but you can tame some animals

Shame, this genre has been crying out for a proper fantasy village builder with actual threats.

Would be great to be able to hire/recruit people to help maintain and defend the camp, maybe assign some menial tasks to.

Weird how Diablo, a game that came out 3 decades ago has henchmen but not this? Maybe they simply lack coders with AI-skills?

Still baffles me how games keep adding "Single Player" when there is not single player to be had. Steam should get tougher on that.

I think I will wait for the Viking Mod for Bannerlord. For the actual Viking feeling :).

It's a man vs nature type of game it seems.

I would love it if they added friendly npcs to the game. It's a very overlooked feature that I feel more people enjoy than developers realize.

So I'm confused from what I'm reading. So there are no humanoid NPCs to hire or have as allies? Okay, what about humanoid enemies? Do I only fight animals or can I fight other AI Vikings? Do only animals raid my base?

Is it literally just you and other players vs the wild life? If so that's pretty lame.

"Cooperate
Valheim supports independent, player-hosted servers and as many worlds as you wish to create, because no one wants to continuously die alone."

Straight from the website.
Perhaps you thought this game was going to be like something else and accidentally made a mistake with your purchase.

Straight from the Steam Page. "Single Player". Well i didn't expect much to be honest. Creating AI is not for everyone. You need skilled coders and obviously they didn't have access to them.

Luckily we have Diablo4 around the corner :).

Apparently not. I will keep waiting for D4.

I'm not sure on how to respond to the last sentence as I believe most games are players vs. the world.
Single Player means that you can play the game alone. Sure you can make Tic Tac Toe solitaire without AI and call it Single player but I doubt anyone would take it seriously.

Solution is quite simple. Just advertise the Game correctly as MMO and you will have less refunds. Because that is all they will get if they market it wrongly. Saves everyone time and money.

I have chosen to spend my money as I see fit. In plain English.

It's incredible how people are castrated for wanting a certain feature in the game.

That would sort of defeat what I said last quote ;). There are plenty of dedicated SP games that needs time :). Bannerlord for instance, even in beta they managed to fit in Henchmen ;).

Which just further reinforces the desire for a more full single player experience.

Other people ruin everything

Well, luckily we have plenty of options. We just saw with Life is Feudal what happens when you have no single player options. You have no Game at all :).
