Question about a roof
*Restoring this, some bot moved it to an inappropriate location. *
My current build is nearing completion. 10 complete floors all of stone, no mods, not built up a rock or anything, just pure iron & rock & terrain for support. Great location is a valley in a large mountain biome that dips down and becomes plains and BF. As often happens with me and large builds, something gets slightly off here and there along the way and so it isn't a perfect cylinder. I want a cone looking roof and I sort of have it, but its just not quite right and I end up shoving extra pieces into it until all the gaps close, at which point its rather messy.
fun facts: the raised terrain goes all the way to the first balcony with iron grates. It is basically the large stone walls in a V shape with raised terrain in the middle and cosmetic filler closing the gaps. Going down inside it, the rooms continue all the way to the bedrock level, the same diameter as the upper levels (so the wider base is caused by support and isn't furnished/accessible).
Because ore drops, and moat, I made a 'secret' entrance, decorative entryway doubles as stairs up to the first balcony level. The entryway is a portal to the middle level, not an actual entrance.
The minaret is too small, really, it ended up being only about 2 floor tiles big and is pretty but useless. I had hoped to make it bigger but lateral support and space were just not allowing it.
Its tall enough that the upper roof is snowy.
anyway, your thoughts on improving the roof appreciated.

This 2 layered square roof has become my go to design choice. It eliminates the need for a chimney, and is absolutely perfect for hanging or standing braziers.

yeah, the good'ol rounded roofs - just try and try again. it takes some time and some testing to get such roof done. but every attempt will bring you a bit closer
my first rounded hut had a fireplace in the center with a roofed chimney
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2625334569
then i did longhouses with chimney tops:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2644269503
after that i returned to my round houses to learn if i could find some optimization
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2661693545
wich leads me to all sorts of rounded roof setups
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2782575999
and finally i managed to get chimney setups different
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2780823616
so just try and learn of the things that might not feel right

^^ I had been doing that as well, and it works great and looks nice! I just wanted a cone this time, as I started with a pic online as a rough idea of what I wanted and it had that style. My result doesn't look a thing like the original; the pic is about 3x taller but they didn't have to deal with valheim support system... the last bit of wall had at least 3 spots where it broke and needed a maze of bars to eek out the final placements.

Looks better than my roofs come out as! I think of all the building aspects of this game roofs are the hardest to get right.

I started making regular 'A' roofs on my round buildings, which extend beyond the round edge, but also gives me a place to have two lookouts/balconies on both sides, instead of the roof being completely enclosed.

That worked! I have a couple of don't fall 10 stories roof tiles from when I was building it, you can ignore those. Its still not a perfect cone, I had to elongate it one 2x2 tile to get it to really work, but its smooth and near perfect and close enough to centered that you can't tell without counting pixels. Interestingly, these are 45 degree slopes until the top, the 26 degree cap piece (x2) perfectly fit to close the holes and blend into it.
Thanks all! With this, I just need to repair rain damage & start moving in...
The dip at the bottom isnt an imperfection, its the minaret roof.

Round roofs can be tricky

Building a symmetrical framework can help. I forget if i started at the peak or the edges on these, but even these are far from "perfect"

Ok, thank you.
Yes, I have been at this one for almost 2 months, hour here and there slow going. There is enough iron and rocks in that tower to supply 4 normal vikings for life.

I always start with a 2x2 stone foundation for the 'center' of any of my builds, and build around that, because that cross + section in the center of them will always be centered to the rest of the build, and offers a central point for a support beam (if necessary). It will also act as a guide point for the uppermost levels of any build, and makes rooftops easier to seal.
Given you've already dumped a lot of time and effort into the build, breaking anything up top to gradually come down to find your error that rendered it off-center, or to fix inaccuracies in the design to fix the roof is out of the question now. The best thing for the roof now is to likely make a singular cross section up top (horizontal beams), and try to manage sealing it that way by finding the middle. Otherwise, tearing down the upper portions until you can locate the offset is going to be your own viable solution, unfortunately.

I have the 'center'; I did as you said and built off a exact initial marker stone.
Its just not symmetrical. The symmetry error goes all the way down, unfortunately. I think I got thrown off with the terrain raised support spikes which were hard to place precisely and I had to adjust a couple of times. I used that a bit with the entry-ways -- those are on the 'extra fat' walls.
Do you think maybe I should loft like a tall pole off the center and then try to come down off that rather than trying to build up off the walls...?

The centre pole idea works very good, that is what I do to make my roofs symmetrical. It works great insomuch as the tar roof corner pieces click right onto it.
