Too much lag (practically mandatory)

If you really want peace of mind and a protected base, the only effective tool to keep enemies out is terrain modification, but when you use that resource the lag is unbearable.

optimization or improvement in this aspect ... when?

I have like 120 fish just sitting above the surface of water just outside of physics lock range of my base on a peninsula. Unless I go out there in a boat so the physics engine can reattach to them, they'll just stay there forever. Devs need to clean up that stuff or stop spawning things in at that distance.

My biggest performance problems come from a mod that auto-picks and auto-loots and I didn't know it had a toggle switch... so my entire world that I've meticulously mapped has random loot just everywhere. It only causes frame hitching. It's totally bearable and I terraform like crazy cause I hate the event mechanism. My save file is about 25mb at the moment so it's not huge but it does take about 20 seconds to save on a pcie4 ssd.

Performance in this game is way better than most of the crafting base building games I have aside from maybe Satisfactory. But I also don't play on a server or with friends so it's all about my machine.

For your situation, If you have no intent to clean up the drops and for whatever reason they don't auto despawn after a few in game days, I would run the
removedrops
command from console. Not sure if that also works on the fish, but there shouldn't be that many fish in 1 spot unless they were console spawned; sounds like a bug if not spawned.

I'm pretty sure removedrops only works on the active player region, if it's all over the map that's a little different.

Terrain modification doesn't cause lag.. leaving stumps sitting about does. Leaving trash gear floating/sitting around does..

There is a random occasional skip that occurs on cache dump/load. Devs said they are working on it.

that makes sense though, i used to drop loot to replace with more fancy stuff and over time it mustve accumulated to quite the dump

but there should be some decay time though for this ? trash cant just persist for all eternity does it ?

Either a troll or has a potato laptop to play or is just exaggerating the terrain works by far.
We built several big bases (5 player big) with moats and earth walls and really big buildings up to 4 stories high with pig and wolf pens (filled with about 6 animals of each) and giant vegetable fields and never encountered an unbearable lag, not even a lag.

If they are within a workbench area or a player they stay forever. That's what the obliterator is for.

bloat loot persistence is a common cause for massive formance sinks in large openworld games

Op was referring to terrain modification only causing his lag. For sure littering your base will at some point start lag too but that's what chests are for. We have at least 40 large chests full of stuff in our base and still no lag.

Video lag starts when you modify the terrain to create, for example, a wall - ditch, or to flatten the surface where the base will go. It's unbearable and the more you build and the bigger the base the worse it gets.

It becomes frame by frame very often

I remember that on a friend's server all the people avoided going near a "village" created by a user because the lag was too much. There was an artificial ditch around it.

That bug was fixed a while ago, terrain modifications are now overwritten rather than being additive so the bug does not occur
