Because the invasions are getting stonger with each boss.
So if you want to build nice bases without annoing raids (only some pigs) than don't kill him.
I know you get the pickaxe from him but there is another way to go further.

Instead go into the dark forrest and let a troll destroy the ore for you. It's not difficult. I did the same in my currently game and it is so much more relaxing.
Ah one other important thing never kill a Troll. NEVER. (Because it will trigger another Invasion Event)
If you do this you can build really peacefull.

You need them in one of 1-8 quick keys, then look at his altar and press that button it will take 2 heads and summon him

You got to get five and then you got a put them on your equipment slot and use them that way.

Stand near the alter, you get a prompt to drop the deer trophies. They need to be in a slot 1-8

Five? It was two last time I did it. I put in three and had one leftover.

Careful, it is possible to summon more than one at a time.
