My friend would get kicked when on the ocean when opening his map. We seemed to believe that the speed at which the boat travels and is updating map and surrounds seemed to be too much for it to handle. So basically try not to open maps up when the boat is moving

Noone really knows what caused this in this case.

It could be poor connection of op or his friend. It could be a fart in the connectevity because the provider has some maintenance to do or repairs. It could be simply his game crashing.

Without any further info like logs there is no point in accusing the devs for anything. I for example never had any disconnects when I played with friends. Not a single time and we played hours upon hours.

It´s btw the first time I read about this. If this were a universal problem you would see many bug report threads popping up but it doesn´t seem to be a problem for most of us.

I've read about and experienced myself many networking issues with this game. It does have some real issues with networking.

For the OP and his friend, I would recommend the "BetterNetworking" mod. The author of that mod has even discussed some of said issues with the Devs themselves.

Valheim is one of the very few games I can enjoy with my friends from the opposite side of the globe. Networking is working as fine as it needs to be. The game is not responsible for the users not having robust connections.

It's great that it's working for you. Don't assume others don't have issues, and don't leap to "non-robust connections" as a cause when you don't even know what the OP's issue is. There are more players than you.

OP is leaping to "Valheims servers" being the issue - something which doesn't exist. It's pretty safe to assume OP is the problem and work back from there.

I don't follow. You're going to assume he's the problem because he thought there were official Valheim servers? That's not logical at all, and it also doesn't refute my point at all.

Valheim has no servers. I don't know whose server you're complaining about but it isn't Valheims problem.

If you're playing with friends, who ever you've joined is the host aka serve (sorta but not really). Inherently its your friend being the issue, and if your friends have setup a dedicated server its on them not the devs.
