Dead on a mountain - struggling to get my stuff back

I have been playing this game for 6 months and now, after trekking up a mountain to get silver, I get the "you are being hunted" event. I get attacked by around 10-12 wolves. I use bonemass special ability, I fight them all off, bar 1, with 4HP to spare, but then I die to that wolf on the mountain. I thought running would be worse because they're quick and they also have mobile attacks (really good job coding the wolves by the way), but on hindsight, staying was in fact worse.

I have tried about 8 times getting my stuff back but I encounter wolves and drakes every time, and from different angles too. 2 of my attempts I got close to where I originally died, until either a wolf or drake took me out before I could grab everything (I know there's a grab all function but still). I try to make all my attempts within the "no skill drain" duration but I get 2 shot every time regardless.

I have also tried a mix between high stamina foods, high health foods and a bit in between. I also made the mistake of taking all my frost resistance potions on my 2nd attempt, so all my frost resistance potions are stuck up there too. I have the resources to make more, but of course, it takes ages to make these potions.

I really want to get my stuff back to keep me motivated to play this game, but now my motivation is dying out with my attempt I make. I honestly do not want to start from scratch and ideally I should try to do this without external help (either hopping on different server to get items to help or getting someone in my world to help). Does anyone have any tips retrieving your progress when you have died with your main stuff on a mountain?

Are you sure the hunt event is over? If the red circle still appears on your big map, then it is still running. If the event hasn't finished I wouldn't try to go back under equipped. Work at one of your bases until a different event occurs and that will replace it.

If the event is over, I would just take some wood and a bow and make small improvements to help you fight the enemies. If there is no tree or rock to use, one or two sections of stake wall can be used to duck behind and block the attacks of the frost drakes. Learn their attack patterns and shoot them down. You need to learn how to do it eventually and frost glands and trophies are needed for your equipment anyway. You can also shoot them from far away before they spot you. If you miss it might draw them to you, but then you already have something to duck behind and should have no trouble killing them even undergeared.

For wolves you can make a perch in a tree or against a vertical rock face that you need to jump onto. Wolves don't jump. They do rapidly destroy wooden constructions though, so you can't rely on just walls and need to make sure you are higher than their attack range.

For more advanced play, you should learn to use the environmental cues and your awareness indicator to find out if there are nearby enemies. If you hit stealth and the eyeball icon appears, then an enemy is aware of you. If something is aware of you, you should deal with it before moving on. If you are building something (or mining or moving even) keep checking your awareness indicator to find out if something has been attracted by the sound. You don't need to stealth everywhere, but by checking your awareness, you can get advanced warning if an enemy is approaching and return to a safe spot to fight. If the enemy appears to lose track of you, you can let them go (but they will probably be back if you resume what you were doing). If you want to keep attracting them to your prepared position (so you can clear them out of the way) use your pick on something. Fight enemies one at a time and check your awareness and you should be able to walk up and pick up your gear knowing that there is nothing nearby.

As for the frost damage issue;
I believe someone posted that Campfires can be placed to remove the frost effect, they are cheap to place, dont require a workbench and can be used as a makeshift trap/weapon for ground mobs.

Making a path towards your loot in this way could help a lot, and you can run away if it gets too intense just to come back and finish your ''road''.

Some other things that might help;
- Any armor you can cobble together reduces damage, even if its just a tiny bit.
- Bows can help give you an edge and if you stay hidden, can snipe some enemies
- Take only the stuff with you that you need to survive the run, and foods that you already had on you. That way you dont take up more slots than you need, so you can take your lost loot back without leaving stuff behind or staying stuck in the loot window.

I always try to have alteast the food that i already had in the exact same slots as i had when i died, this is 3 slots i dont have to worry about.

I would say if you have a set of troll hide armor take that and stay stealthed when you get close to where you know drakes are and always keep your ears open for wolves. this is how i've done it in the past.

The hunt event is by far the worst and most dangerous event just due to how wolves are dangerous in general, you either want an atgeir or the Iron sledge to deal with them and a good armor with bonemass power preferably.

Of course you could also just run away or get to a point in the Mountain, a Rock that the wolves can't reach and kill them from there.

What i did once when i died up there is run up to a golem so it would kill the wolves too.

I got stuck in a you are being hunted death loop once. It isn't fun. Mine was instant death though as I had built a bed/hut on the mountain and after initially killing us away from it, they kept spawn killing my girlfriend and I. We eventually managed to get away/outside and get to our stuff but it was brutally unfair for awhile.

In cases like that, you can type /resetspawn into the chat window (no console or devcommands needed). It sets your spawn point back to the boss trophy stone ring where you first enter Valheim.

For reference, here's the full command list from the wiki:

If it's your first time and you don't have an integrity meter, which you shouldn't since it sounds like your still in early stages of becoming a hardened wall headbutter, just go devcommands bro, god, fly get your stuff regroup, turn off devcommands and try again with some extra fall back plans put in place so it doesn't happen again 👍

Its actually pretty easy to dodge a drake's attack (right click and hold then press the space bar, works even better if you are moving sideways rather than forward or back) and once it has missed it takes several second before it is ready to make another pass so the drakes are not an issue. There are a couple of other things you can do about the wolf.

Set a portal up near the base of the mountain so you can return quickly from your main base or portal hub. If you can find a nearby troll even better. Sleep if it is night time, craft a flint spear, eat all the highest stamina foods you have available, get your rested bonus, the only thing you should have in inventory is the spear and a frost mead.

Portal over, drink the mead, when you get near your body and the wolf go into sneak mode until you are in range to throw your spear (middle mouse). Then throw the spear to get the wolf's attention, (this also empties your inventory) activate the Eikhytr power and sprint away from your corpse. If you found a troll lead the wolf to the troll and while the wolf and troll try to kill each other you can circle back around to your corpse. When the wolf is on your heels and is about to strike use the rolling dodge maneuver. If you didn't find a troll keep sprinting until you run out of stamina and let the wolf kill you again.

Grab a frost mead, eat, rest and portal back. Go 90 degrees from the direction you led the wolf away and walk 100 or so meters that direction before climbing up the mountain again so that once you are near you corpse you are approaching it from a 90 degree different angle. When you get near it enter sneak mode again and check for the wolf. If hasn't returned go and grab your corpse and gear. If it has returned keep circling around so that you approach your corpse from directly opposite it. The wolf should be far enough away that you can sneak right up to within grabbing distance of your corpse without alerting it.

If grabbing your corpse alerts it equip your belt first if you are overloaded, then equip your shield and block the first attack. Equip your weapon and block the 2nd attack then swing once, block the next attack and swing once, repeat until you've killed the wolf and can take the time to equip the rest of your gear.

well you're going to HAVE to make frost potions so you might as well do that
you can maybe do it 'naked' with a frost potion of course and lots of high stamina
food and Eikthyr (sp) power instead of Bonemass so you can run away

you need a bow and some arrows for those drakes and wolves and maybe a club
or sword or the mighty atgeir. I don't use a shield much but your old bronze shield
might be nice to have

basically you just need to prepare a bit and then be fast and preferably avoid combat

well not so fast that you just run into bad things; slow down a recon a bit when you get
close to your gravestones

a long range plan is to have another character in another world so you can rescue
yourself if necessary. It really won't take all that long to get a character going because
you know what you're doing

Obviously go during the day, frost resist a must , if you take the time to brew them up then you have a good chance the spawn will reset back to original positions.

Then you need to make the choice between best gear you can pull out of storage / craft run , and a naked run , both have their strengths and weaknesses.

If you do a geared run you have to meticulously clear on your approach, If you do a naked you need to run and pray. Either way you gotta run with anything you grab further down the mountain.

*edit , obviously only take one potion.

*edit 2 , maybe try to get a portal close.

Although I have a portal hub room masquerading as a dungeon in the basement of my HQ, I have a portal beside me bed named "Transit". I carry portal parts to where I am exploring or harvesting, and place a "Transit" portal in a fixed up abandoned building in a relatively safe area. Those small 8 x 8 stone keeps fit a portal nicely after knocking down the inner wood stairs. Roof is optional. I build a portal in them with a chest behind it, while looking for a place to build a proper shelter.
