it really can 'feel like' grind this for this
A 'complaint' that may burst your bubble..
Once the initial wonder is done and you know what there is to come, a broad horizon is in front of well, me at least, of..
get this gear, now quick, mine to get a new piece then a new piece then a new piece, and upgrade n upgrade,
okay cool and now..
you got this gear, now quick, mine to get a new piece then a new piece then a new piece and upgrade n upgrade.
Rinse and repeat, with no divergence, the instant you get the gear you are stripping it off, to the point of the next armour is a micro step forward..
That's a problem, to me, it exacerbates the feeling of a grind, i got to the end before mistlands and i have played a few times since, (pc wiped) n i've started again when mistlands came out
..and now i look and with no 'side reason' i just see, got bronze maxed.., now it's iron, max it, then silver, max it, then black metal, 'max it', all the same process with no variation and no reason to use it once you have it but only to get the next piece, there is no stay n it kills me lol just extra crafting grind tables etc, then off to the mistlands. feels like a slog.
i'd love reason to stay with that gear but there is no branch off the tree just a slow race, which again exacerbates the feel of a grind.
I don't know how many times i am going to be able to do that again, i wont be exploring everything this time that's for sure, so i can have unexplored areas for the next updates.
I have heard ppl saying they've been making it easier, though reduced stamina.
A lot of other games will make it harder n harder due to 'elites' repeating too easy, too easy. They are smart enough not too because they push out a player base and i've seen a few fall that way, there's also the ppl that wont 'do all that' again either so easier.. too easy..
I want to get to the mistlands, so i am going to do the grind through 'no change' areas of swap to swap to see it n leave the rest unexplored.
maybe they are making it easier because of the 'alllll that again with no change?' dwindling customer base, if only there was more poi situations to distract us from it..
i brought that up in a suggestion, i keep arriving there.
I'm on my hols n wanted to 'mist it' but JS i keep sitting down n it feels like work lol.
it grinds down to, gimme POI's!! or rewarded exploration lol
Considering the way updates go, it will be ah, some time before anything changes let alone some interest outside of the grind.
The game has some great implementations but growing the world around us while they expand it isn't one of them.
My whine :D
...
EDIT: i am not trying to sound smart, or stupid either lol, but the way my memory works is i sit down n turn on valheim n my brain insta goes, here this may help, the entire process fresh in your mind, like you did it yesterday YW..
oh brain wtf lolol

I love how this community whines endlessly about devs selling out and catering to $$$, then when a game comes along that does actually stick to its vision the community whines about that too.
I'm saying neither, what i am saying is that just because you have a set goal for the game and are adding new biomes doesn't mean, to put it melodramatically, that the previous biomes should become abandonware :P
As they add new biomes the end goal gets further n further away and ppl will have to keep running through more and more of the 100% totally identical, not a thing different, 1 dungoen/crypt copy pasta zones from previous play throughs to get there.
I can tell you right now the player base they have is NOTHING in comparison to the initial player base they had because they've seen it ALL already or at least the 40 hour grind to get there.
The smart move is knowing how far ppl have to go to get there and how to keep them enticed until they do.
As i mentioned before, i wont be exploring anything beyond what i have too this time (if i do it again this time) because i am not about to grind 40 hours again for the 100% same things when the next biome comes out, how many times do you think ppl will do that?
..but, ya know how easy it is to fix that..?

This is the problem with the Mistlands nerfs. There's no challenge at all now and it's just a grind. The high difficulty, gives you more to do, more to overcome. It makes the game more interesting and less of just a boring sandbox grind. I can't bring myself to play anymore because it feels like a pointless grind now if they refuse to make any difficult content. The challenge gives something to work toward.

Every game turns to a grind when it stops being fun, and when each game stops being fun for each player is subjective.

In every Game i Had i Used Troll Armor Till silver. And even Made the Plains a few Times only with troll-armor and wolf-cape and the best bow, because i can't stand the Grind for Gear. I'm more a builder.
This Changes youre Playstyle. I'm Not parrying crap, i Just Hit and Run and be carefull(i Love stealth-games, so i have pation in this way of playing) get what i need and be gone.
But i also die way less this way. Would be so frustrated when i would die dozens of Times Like people Always Talk about Here in the Forum.

I got back up to an egg hunt in the mountains before I just wandered off to play something else. Never ran into a challenge in that time, never met much of anything that posed a real threat, never had a problem that required a new solution.
There's a major issue that needs to be addressed in exploration. Procedural map generation and sailing are fine things on their own, but they interact destructively in this game. You dink around from island to island to find biomes you need, trading time for map. There's no real risk as you can outrun everything. The net result is the transformation of discovery and adventure into yet another chore you have to perform to get to the fun part. Whatever that is. Once you get over the initial thrill of sailing, you realize the karve and longship amount to a minivan and delivery truck.
When the game was new and novel, I was willing to push through to see the boss fights. Now, the is shine gone. I only ever discover things I've seen many times before. Every shore looks the same. Fights are rote exercises. The wilderness isn't wild. I've encountered more interesting monsters on foraging runs by going to the grocery store on the first of the month.

I've never once made bronze armor or shield only thing I make bronze is a new pick and a new axe.. I use troll as long as I can. I do use iron.. I could try skipping that next time.. we'll see.

I think you're on the right track. Part of the challenge, for me at least, is to wager and decide what parts to skip. Flint spear and 'fine bow' works decently in swamp and mountains. I've focused on a good shield for blocking/parrying, but mostly troll armour still. I've mined some bronze and iron for progression, but I will grind and mine silver for armour upgrades. Feels a lot less grindy this way, but also makes for some tough encounters.I've never once made bronze armor or shield only thing I make bronze is a new pick and a new axe.. Would you like some cheese with that whine? :P
Yay, you've just discovered that this may not be the game for you as it doesn't suit your style of play. AND THAT IS OK. There's a fair proportion of us who enjoy the slow grind and a simple game mechanic. And yes, the game is definitely grindy - I am definitely not disagreeing with you. If you need more exploration and reward, pick a game that has a wider, fully fleshed open world. Valheim ain't it and it never will be. It's a cozy, set progression and I doubt very much will change in that respect.

You discovered the game-play loop.. congratulations.. you can do this with 90% of games out there IF you really tried and ruin your own experience if you think about it too much. The grind can be a lot but I'm with friends.. it's fun overall.
I will say this.. I take everything to T4.. that is when it seems like a ripoff. Going from any T4 to the next armor is equal in most cases. T4 iron armor has the same stats as T1 padded this is BS. So I will say this.. next time I play I will never be going over T2 then maybe it won't feel so cheap and I won't feel robbed when I get to the next stage plus I'll save a ton of resources to make ONE black metal T4 weapon/tool is 120 black metal.. lmao.. what a joke.

Well now you figured it out, go change it! You dont really need to grind, so if you do, thats on you :P. you got this gear, now quick, mine to get a new piece then a new piece then a new piece and upgrade n upgrade.
Rinse and repeat, with no divergence, the instant you get the gear you are stripping it off, to the point of the next armour is a micro step forward..
In my 4 or was it 5 games of V, i've never crafted a piece of bronze or iron armor... and now with mistlands Flintbow is the only bow i craft. Even farming can be speed up thou its a pita tbh.
Ofc yeah the game IS grindy, and more exploration would be more fun, but i see people overfarm a lot here. There is better balance to strike within given game mechanics, even if they could be better too.
