First I turn off I have all my updates turned off on Steam Games so that it doesn't update anything unless I hit the play button "through" steam.

Secondly I have two computers. My main (play computer) and my secondary (update computer)

On my main I play my games straight out of the steam folders but without ever logging into steam. No steam...game starts right up without ever contacting steam thus no auto updating.

When an update comes out I log into steam on my second computer, implement the patch and test it out.

If I don't like the patch I go back to playing the game on my main computer skipping steam altogether giving the developer time to patch problems, tweak the game, or decide not to.
Some times I may even copy the game files to another location to play from there if the patch looks like something I will "never" enjoy.

If I like the update then I go ahead and update it on my main.


Yes it is messy but I literally cannot count the number of times it has saved me from developer ideas that ruin my enjoyment.

to the best of my knowledge there is no way to roll back updates or patches in Valheim.

Which is indeed a PITA at times.

edit: just checked, there isn't even a way to turn the auto updates off :(

I actually find it more odd you think you should be able to roll back patches on a whim. Games are not supposed to be played like that.

It's not even really the game's fault. It's the sheer amount of players that are hosting a server, want's to play Valheim, but has literally no time to play Valheim. I have time to play Valheim. I could play it for more than a whole hour if you wanted me to. I should be hosting a server, but I'm really hoping you guys can just pick up the slack instead.

I'm waiting for like 2 servers to update, why? Can't server owners have some awareness?

Make a copy of the Game folder, so you can play the version you want as long as you wish
If you have luck the beta tab offers a compatible version... nope, no offered other versions at all
