Question Regarding Skill upgrades.
Just a quick question for better understanding... When you level up a weapon i understand you do more damage with it, but is it Percentage base? like etc my Polearm skill is 18, so am i doing 18% more damage with polearms?
Been playing since the start of valheim but never really noticed the Skills effecting my damage b4.
Thanks in advance.

It varies per skill, the percentage effects at maximum skill are listed on the wiki https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Skills
Not sure if the effect at lower skill levels is linear

Damage seems RNG to a range. Skill increases are small so it isn't really too obvious when you level up. When you really notice it is when you hit a "break point" where suddenly it only takes two hits to chop down the tree rather than 3. Bow skill vs trolls really illustrates this well.
Alternatively it becomes painful when a death puts you back below that break point ha ha.

IMO the skills are really masked in this game until you reach the higher end of the skills.
So when you playing from start and gaining skills you are at the same time along the way gaining new armors and wepons that reduces the skills as they crave more stamina or will make you slower.
And I also think that losing some skills by dying ain't a big deal sins you soon gain them again by doing what you have to do. Sometimes it can feels a bit stiff after dying many times ( not in a row ). But I feel I soon adapt to it and do not really care about the skills as i said before i will get them soon enough anyway.

Yea that's what i'm thinking, i can't tell if i'm doing more than i normally do. I saw on maybe tools and stuff (Chopping and mining) but fighting nah. Damage seems RNG to a range. Skill increases are small so it isn't really too obvious when you level up. When you really notice it is when you hit a "break point" where suddenly it only takes two hits to chop down the tree rather than 3. Bow skill vs trolls really illustrates this well.

The dying part is a bit of a bummer of how much the points drop down like a lead balloon. I can understand if it goes down a few points. but had a death due too a unlucky invasion in the snow (Hunt). and lost around 12+ points into mining and a dozen or so into a variety of other skills. lol

Totally agree with the end of skill levels, i finished the game on my main and never really noticed what the skills do or how it effects me. Yea the armor and weps drain alot more stam haha, But luckily we get good stam food now for that issue :P IMO the skills are really masked in this game until you reach the higher end of the skills.

The dying part i can relate too. Sucks it drops signifiicantly (Pologies for the spelling lol). But yea chain dying reducing all of your stats (Even the buff says dying again won't let you loose anymore stats).
Thanks for the helpful info mate. :)

It's not so much the size of the skill drop on death, it's that *every* skill drops but you only regain them one at a time. At higher levels it would take hours of dedicated training montage to recover all losses from a single death.
