You don't need to sail back and forth, or doing some tedious world hoping.

Make a boat, find a decently big black forest and you're fine to get a stock of 90 copper and 45 tin, giving you 45 bronze ingots in one trip.

At that point, it is enough for a single player to make a full armor set and 1 or 2 weapons. You can also save you the armor set and make a troll leather armor instead.

The problems with resources gathering occurred when one wants to make every available weapons, every piece of armor and upgrade everything to the maximum. You don't need so much to progress.

2 copper gathering trips as described above gives more than enough bronze for a single player.

I honestly feel like the balance in this game is based on single player and it becomes super easy w/ more people added.

The devs did say when the game blew up that they were surprised that so many people were even playing this game in multiplayer, so that kinda makes sense.

Pretty sure that there is scaling for mobs at least, but their AI is such that they can't really do anything against attacks from multiple directions (not that most players can either lol).

All of the metals / farming / grinding etc is the same as one person as for a group, as the materials required for everything don't change, but if you have 10 people mining a copper node, it's going to go a lot faster than just me plinking away at a big rock, but you also need 10x as much copper so it evens out.

It's good solo. It's good w/ friends. It's a good game.

But if there's anything you don't like about it, there's probably a mod that "fixes" it. If you're playing on PC, isn't customization the whole point of the platform?

You don't have to sail half way across the world with metals if you make separate bases for smelting metals/creating gear.
Sounds like a great idea, but largely unrealistic. Smelting doesn't give any real bonus to metal capacity (other than bronze), and planning all the metal hungry tech upgrades is itself a cumbersome process. Maybe a veteran can manage, but for typical play everything belongs in the core base.

I built external outposts in my first playthrough. That's probably why it took me around 1200 in-game days till I finally found Yagluth. ;)

Let's say, I'm not in a rush. This game is not a race. The journey is the game.

Players: "Actually, just skip Eikthyr and get Copper and Tin from kiting Trolls. Then just settle out in a nice Meadows and build a superbase and farm for days, it will be so peaceful and no one will bother you."

Odin: ......

Its a little cheesy but like the other person said you just have 2 worlds, have yourself by your storage chest in one world and mine the metals in the other and you can transport a super heavy load of metals almost instantaneously to a chest.

Subjective. You can always use a second world as a portable bank.

While it is a popular choice to have one character per world, it is completely a self-imposed rule.

I never saw this as a big problem. I either transport my metals by boat, or I just built a (small) base there. It's part of the game. But then I don't mind the "chores" that Valheim give me.

It's actually the first game for me where the "chores" are not too overburdening and still remain a sense of being fulfilling.

So, for me it is not a "grind", it's simply part of the gameplay.

Edit: Majorily single player.

Nope, no metals through portals
However there are mods that fix that.

Or you can do the log out, log into different world, put metal in chest, log back into main world, go through portal, log back into different world, take metal out of chest, log back into main world. Tada, metal through portal.
Now, is that tedious? Yes. But ask yourself this, would you rather log out/in like 4 times or sail across half the world?

Nothing was changed in the base game, but Valheim+ will do what you want.

I am spoiled now because my kiln and smelter pull from nearby chests.

Yes, it is balanced for single player and I doubt it will change much. Metal will never go through portals without a mod.

Do you say like, make a base near the metal source so you wouldn't have to transporting those?

Yeah and even if you're too lazy to relocate your smelt base and do it the old fashioned way by sailing. Always take your boat through the portal on the way there.

You don't have to sail both ways.

*Edit : to the OP's question. Yes the game scales. If one person is playing then one person will need a set of armor. If 5 people are playing then 5 people will need a set.

It's actually genius.

Personally I look for a black forest copper node near iron crypts or at the base of a mountain.
That sort of thing.
Copper is needed for the forge. Tin is light an easy enough to run if needed.
Setting up a base by the copper node is easy. You can run a load of ore and process it while you run back for more. Works out great honestly. Quick and easy.

Keep in mind I would set up a main base with max comfort to sleep at. Possibly another base for cooking.. depends on when you find the right resources and RNG of the map.
